I used the Referencwe USA-Business database. If you have an account with a librabry you should be able to access. It is a great database!

Only certain libraries have access to the Reference USA database, but it is a really good source with lots of information and it is FREE.

follow-up is key. many individuals will see the postcard and might be somewhat interested, but wont make a move until they are contacted by you directly.

I just recently found another free source for getting company information and creating your database. I have not fully checked this out, but it looks similar to Reference USA. This is from the Sales Gravy website http://salesgravy.salesfuel.com/coin....aspx?City=xxx

I did an introductory letter to my chamber of commerce members. I got the mailing list from the chamber of commerce. I have their names, addresses, phone numbers, emails and website addresses from this mailing list.

The local chamber sites are great places to find information. If you go to their offices you can get their directory book as well.

You do have to be a member don't you? I know membership is a bit heavy at this point, for me anyways.

Yes, you do need to become a member; however, they do give away their directories to anyone and as far as their website information, a lot of them just post it open to the public.

Any postcard mailing updates? I just did my first mailing and was wondering how long it took for most people to get responses.

i'm thinking the same. I'm hoping to do my first mail blast today/tomorrow and I just hope that I get some leads from 20 contacts that I found on the local chamber of commerce sites [as well as the local BNI sites]

I'm working on my first mailing this week. I am thinking of doing postcards or a sinlge sell sheet/flyer type mailing?? My main hurdle is getting a mailing list I really would like to target new businesses first. I don't really have the funds to join a chamber though.

There are lots of ways to target new businesses only. We have a local business paper that publishes a listing of Secretary of State filings monthly and our main newspaper has them daily in the legal classifieds section. You can manually cull this information from these types of sources with just a little patience and time.

Try searching this forum for 'mailing list' and you will find lots of threads on ways to get/create mailing lists for free.
