Default Marketing letter - sign it or not?
I just sent out a marketing letter to a prospective client (an attorney). The letter was written in a traditional business format so I didn't think twice about it when I signed it.

After dropping it into the mailbox, I thought that perhaps I shouldn't have signed it -not only because of ID theft but whether it is "correct".

What are your feelings about this? Do you sign marketing letters?

Whenever I receive a letter from someone that isn't signed, I'm a little taken aback. To me, it shows laziness on the sender's part and I don't want to deal with a person who won't take the time to sign a letter to me, especially if they are soliciting my business.

Any bit of personalization in this industry goes a long way, and your clients and PC's will appreciate it.

If it is a personal letter I believe it should be signed - but to protect yourself and your business don't use your legal signature. If that is not an option then have someone else sign your name.

You can never be too careful these days.

I think it totally depends on the material. If you write a traditional letter then sign it. If you create a flyer, don't sign.

If you want to do business with them you need to give them your name.

I agree with Robin. The letter should be signed. An unsigned letter is far too impersonal and not very professional.

In my opinion a marketing letter should always be signed, or else it would be very unprofessional.

I agree with the others, a letter should be signed. I am confused by your identity theft comment. As the letter is being sent to a potential client, if you don't sign because you are worried about identity theft then what does that say about the trust end of the relationship.

I also agree with the others - a letter should be signed to show personalisation and professionalism.

I definitely agree with the others here. A letter should be signed. A flyer, probably not!

If you'd like additional assurance that the letter has reached it's intended destination, send it with delivery receipt or something to that effect or via courier to add that special touch!!
