Re: What is a typical day for a VA?!
Here are some of the ways I receive work from my clients:
-fax (e-fax & paper)
-Zimbra collaboration suite (installed on my network, with clients having logins to it - a web based, open source collaboration tool has email, file sharing, wiki, calendaring, tasks)
-audio and video files via ftp (might be verbal to-dos, info for transcription, notes for a document, a demonstration/procedure/howto to document, or a demo showing me what needs to be done, etc.)
-jpg or gif of filled whiteboards (might be text to-dos, might be drawings to convert to visio or other drawing package)
-VoIP scheduled calls
-Webcam meetup (scheduled)
-Landline scheduled calls (least used method)
-UPS/FedEx/USPS (I sometimes test &/or configure small hardware devices, so they ship them to me; also did a gig where the client needed a massive pile of documents scanned, so they shipped the docs to me)
My days start with email, since that's how I receive most client work. I check the list of priorities for today that I made yesterday, I check my calendar for appointments, everything jibing? yep, then I get on to real work.
I work 50 minutes of every hour, then get out of my chair for 10: let the dogs out, reboot laundry, load the crockpot for dinner, run on the elliptical, lift hand weights, file paperwork, refill my water glass, etc.
The last thing I do in my work day is check email to see if something needs attention immediately tomorrow morning, check my calendar, and then I make my priorities for the next day.
