Default Notary Question
I'm sure this was asked a thousand times before, but has it helped your business or not made a difference for those of you who have Nortary licenses?

I think it depends on the services that you want to offer with it.

I know from working in the mortgage servicing industry, closers/notaries are chosen based on experience, price, availability and willingness to travel. That's not to say you cannot get you foot in the door but you need to be very flexible with your hours including late days and evenings.

I don't mind the evenings and of course the Notary would be local. Has anyone heard about the "loan signing agent" license? I'm seeing this now as I look up information on Notary.

I've been considering this too just as an aside. I'm confused by "price" though... I was under the impression a Notary could only charge $5 or $10 per witness - is there some other fee scale? I didn't realize you could make any money doing it - all the notaries we've seen did ours for free.

Just curious - thanks!

There is a set fee that you charge - it's listed on the states website (I believe) I've seen it a few times. You can also charge a travel fee if you do mobile services. It doesn't seem to cost a lot to do the Notary. I am looking into the Signing Agent Certificate. It seems that the realty offices and banks look for this to do loan docs now. The fees are larger. Anyone's input would be wonderful.

I was just talking to my husband the other day about having a notary license. How beneficial is it?

I was a notary when i was working for a mortgage company and that was for another state. I am seriously considering this if it is beneficial. Help...?

There was a thread on this here. I'm a notary, but the process wasn't much in Colorado...

Hello Lily... thanks for the link. That was helpful. I guess getting a notary license will definitely be on my TO-DO List.
