Re: Mobile Notary
Loan closing services are a little different is you go through a mortgage or title company for you charge one set "loan closing" fee based on number of doc in the package, travel time and your time. Some closers have a set fee and then additional charges for travel. For loan closings you charge for the service as a whole and not the number of docs you notarize.

Re: Mobile Notary
I have to do more research on the matter. Each state has its own rules. I have checked some of the sites out, but fees vary. The NNA doesn't really have any information on what you can charge if you travel to a client residence. It does have information on becoming a certified loan signing agent. Again, I really have to look into it further but information on the Internet is scare. I have gone to SCORE, but I didn't get any information on mobile notaries. I thought it might be an extra service to offer for my starting a VA business. I mostly notarize now for co-workers, acknowledments are $2 in NY. I became a notary for the benefit of my employer. I don't have an office front now. I work in NYC and there are many mobile notaries. Some offer fingerprinting services as well, which is quite expensive if they make a house call. I will look into it further and let you know what I find out.

Re: Mobile Notary
I am in the process of renewing my notary license (been out of the work force to raise the kiddos and it expired). I am going to add this service to my business however I am going to focus on marketing for solo attorneys for will signings, ect. and to the local homeschool groups. My sister is in one and they need to get their end of year affidvits notarized. I was going to set up a day with the home school leader and all of the members of the group can come and get their home school affidavits notarized. This is good for me because it is one appointment with about 20 affidavits and good for them because they can just come on buy and get it notarized... I hope it works out as planned... =-)
I still have to research what other mobile notaries charge locally. It is on my to do list.

Re: Mobile Notary
I am a Notary Public and as in any business, as long as you market yourself you will get calls. Marketing is key!! To attorneys, pediatricians, jails/prisons, schools, retirement homes, senior centers and of course the internet. Per notarization you will not make a living but (depending on your state laws) it may be profitable as you may be able to charge mobile fees. I have set it aside for the time being but before it expires I will be renewing. Currently I am just working on getting my VA business going.

Re: Mobile Notary
I'm thinking about providing mobile notary services. I know that the sometimes it hard to find a Notary Public. To have a notary on call, that's very convenient.

Re: Mobile Notary
This is great information. I am a notary and have only notarized things at my full-time job so far. I gave some thought to the mobile notary thing but wasn't sure how much to charge for these services.

Re: Mobile Notary
I'm a Notary Public and I've been thinking about providing mobile notary services. I'm going to charge the "legal fee" plus travel fees and it depends on which borough I will be traveling to. It has to be worthwhile for me and still affordable for the client.

Re: Mobile Notary
There are set fees for notary services established for each state, but those are only for notary services. If you are traveling to a clients office or home you can charge a delivery or convenience fee, at least in Texas.

Re: Mobile Notary
I just joined the VA forums and I'm loving all the info.
For this discussion, I wanted to add that with Notary Rotary, there are companies you can submit your information to to let them know you're available. I'm in Texas but I've done real estate closings from Title companies in a number of other areas. The prices range from $150-$175 per closing.
For notarization of other docs, I charge a base rate of $45 for locations with a 25 mile radius of my home and then I charge for mileage thereafter. It has worked for me, except, for safety reasons, I had to take off the notion that I would notarize at a person's home. I will meet someone at a public place close to my home or near their area but I may take my husband with me, just in case there's any funny business!!
I've been called to notarize documents at hospitals and other medical facilities although I marketed my services to local title companies. Being a mobile notary could provide a nice additional income if you get a steady clientele.

Re: Mobile Notary
Great suggestion Paradise Legal about notarizing in a public place. I did mobile notary for a while but stopped. Most of the assignments were with notary signing companies. Payment is generally received on average 30 days after the signing. Much too long to wait for payment of services rendered. It should not be my concern if a transaction closed or didn't. Read the fine print.

Re: Mobile Notary
Victoria, you are correct. I've never had anyone tell me that I wouldn't get paid if the transaction didn't go through. I wouldn't even consider the job if that was in the clause. I also ask my closing clients to pay me within 5-10 days. That is my policy. Others pay either prior to my arrival or when I get there before I even bring out my stamp!!
I actually have a fee schedule that I send to potential clients and we may or may not negotiate the price depending on the work to be done.

Re: Mobile Notary
When I was a Notary there were set prices, and the types of Notary I kept getting calls for only paid a few dollars. Also, someone said he had to take classes and take a test. Where I lived at that time the only thing I had to do was talk to a judge in chambers and answer some questions he asked me. It was very simple, not at all like most Notaries go through. I believe now though were I live there is test, but no classes are required. I would have to double check that information though as it has been awhile since I've read up on it.
