Roxie,
Phone answering is a desirable service for many small business owners who want a live person to answer their phone and field calls. If you plan to offer this service, take a look at some of the threads in the
Phone category where you posted this thread.
Some VAs offer phone service and have come up with creative ways to handle calls. Some clients opt into phone services such as Ring Central where calls are routed to VAs who can either take the calls during specified hours or return calls that go into voice mail. It is up to the VA and the client how best to handle this because it can be difficult to be 'tied' to a phone all day.
Customer service can be a used in nearly every small business and could be particularly helpful to small business owners who have an ecommerce website and offer support to their own customers. So your target market where you can offer customer service would be small business owners who sell products online.
Think about coming up with a plan. Think about how you want to handle answering phones for clients. Can you offer a specified period of time to answer the calls...some clients want calls answered on 'off hours' whereas that might conflict with your time with your family. Will your clients allow the calls to go to voice mail where you can return them later?
Other customer service offerings could be following up wth customer leads for a client; creating a survey; obtaining feedback from client customers and then compiling into a report.
Break down what you did as a CS rep into smaller increments. Do you think you could offer any of these tasks as services?
Also think about tying in other skills into customer service so it is not the only service you offer.
Good Luck!
