Default Ghostwriting??
I've been presented with the possibility of ghostwriting for an attorney's blog, 2 or 3 posts per week. I quoted my normal per hour charge as my rate, but then began to question myself. Does anyone have experience with blog ghostwriting work? Do you charge per post?

I've looked into having this done and from what I've seen, most people charge per article, not per hour. Just make sure you're charging enough to cover your research time, etc.

I do lots of ghostwriting and I charge per hour but more professional writers seem to charge per post...I just find it easier for my billing practices to charge per hour. (I'm also doing the research to create the blog posts, etc. so that falls under a regular hourly rate as well...)
You've already quoted so give it a shot and if it isn't going to work out to your advantage you can always approach the next client with a new rate/perespective (congrats on the new client! )

Thank you!
I feel better about my decision. My reasoning at the time was that I had no way of knowing just how much time might be spent in research, so by charging a flat per post charge, I could have been short changing myself. We'll see how this works out, as you said. And if I decide next time to go with a flat per post rate, at least I'll have some idea of how much work goes into each post.

I've been a ghost writer for about 10 years and I write for a blog as well as other websites. I charge a per post because in general many post for blogs only take about 20 to 30 minutes or less to write and post online. If you charge an hourly rate, you won't really be making any money.

Hope that helps.

Quotes based on word count, in 200 word increments, and research time work best for me.

It helps to get an idea of the budget a potential client has set aside for the contract, though.
