Hello,

For those who offer VA services for students...namely for dissertations and thesis, what specific services do you offer?

Do you just do the proofing and editing, i.e., grammar, spelling?
Do you also rewrite the notes in APA, Chicago, MLA, etc.?
Do you also type the entire paper in the style with footnotes, etc., using the preferred style?

(None of what I have mentioned has anything to do with writing the paper for the student who has done the research and written the text.)

I've been asked to work on both dissertation and thesis papers and I am considering breaking down my writing fees even further based on the contracted level. Currently, my editing and writing fees differ from my standard admin fees but I don't have a separate rate for more detailed writing work, i.e., rewriting the notes in a specific style and/or typing the paper in a specified style. Thesis work can be much more than just proofing and editing.

I am not sure if I should charge a different rate for just the proofing and editing and then a separate rate for the actual structuring of the paper.

What do you think? Do you charge your same rate for all dissertation and thesis services?

Good questions, as always from you, Janine. Sure, go ahead and make a table of your fees for separate jobs. That would be my thought. Maybe you only use the table yourself, when calculating a bid, but there's certainly nothing wrong with charging more for more delicate work.
