Default Question about home office machines - corrupt files
Help...I need input. I have a Lexmark x6570 printer that, among other things, allows me to scan documents and convert them into a PDF document.

I also have a HP Pavillion ze2000 Laptop that I recently had to re-image the harddrive. After I re-installed Windows XP, I now encounter an error when using the scanner. Once I go to convert a scanned document into a PDF, it indicates I have some corrupted files with Abbyy FineReader's OCR software.

Lexmark says it has to do with the Windows XP software. I tried reinstalling all drivers again and still get the same problem. I no longer have Microsoft Office software. I installed OpenOffice, a free mimic of Microsoft Office, but it still does not work. I'm curious to know if anyone knows whether or not it would work with OpalOffice.

I read in another forum that Lexmarks All-In-One printer software has Abbyy Fineprinter software included. I'm just lost at this point.

What can I do to repair the corrupted files? I am stumped!

Have you tried reinstalling the software for each of these machines? Sometimes existing programs tjusthey get hung up on eachother - re-establishing each of them one at a time may solve the problem.
That's where I'd start, anyway...that is - starting over. I know it's a pain but we just had a similar issue at a friend's home office - he'd purchased a new computer tower and the printer, scanner, and other machines no longer wanted to work. We then had to reinstall each of them and it was fine.

Re: Question about home office machines - corrupt files
I know this is an old post, but to give some suggestions for others who might stumble on this....

One thing that is common with printers, scanners, etc is that the hardware can get "junk" caught up in the memory. This would cause garbage (or in this case corrupted files) to be a constant problem.

I would suggest completely powering off all attached equipment (computer, printer, scanner, etc). Unplugging them from the back or the wall for about 20 minutes. Then plugging it all back in and powering it up. This will clear our bad memory in the printer/scanner as well as in the computer.

If you still have problems, uninstall any scanning software/drivers, etc. reboot and then reinstall it.

If you continue to have problems, then it might be time for a computer technician to pay a visit since your problems may be more in depth.
