Default Need to get new laptop - PC or Mac?
Hi everyone!

Just looking for your 2 cents and any resources you may have actually used and can recommend where I can go to easily and quickly get some reviews on laptops. One that gives features and such.

Also - I'd love to hear real life stories about the benefit of MAC over PC and how hard is the learning curve once you make a change and how hard is it to work with clients who have PC's?

I'd also like to maybe even learn a little about people's experience with iPads? Now on iPads I'm a little dumb. I mean - can they replace a PC or MAC?

Anyway - got a big decision to make because the next one needs to have a little more power and speed, but on the other hand cash flow is tight.

Thanks so much!!

Posting my own reply to the question of whether or not to replace current PC with an iPad. Sounds like that is not an option I want to take. I found a great article on the subject. Here's the link in case it helps anyone else.

So will still just need opinions on MAC vs. PC & if I switch to MAC what I can expect with the learning curve and if I will have any barriers when working with clients who have PC's.
Thanks again!!!

There will be a learning curve with Mac but they are rather easy to use.

But there are a lo of questions that need to be answered, what would you be using the system for? What kind of battery life do you think you might need? Is screen size important?

Right now I am working on a 17inch MacBookPro and I love it. It's zippy and super easy to use. However it's heavy as hell so not so good for traveling. It was while I was humping through the Las Vegas airport that I realized that I needed an iPad for travel! LOL

BlissTex...I like that user name. Hmmm...weight would be a consideration for sure.

Amanda - thanks for mentioning those things that I should look for. I definitely need the battery life. I'll definitely want to be able to use it for media...no gaming...and other than that I think all I'll need it for is just basic work related stuff.

Regardless - definitely want fast and a lot of storage - which is pretty much the norm I suppose.

Then you don't need a powerful video card, but lots of memory (for multi tasking) and storage like you said. If you are concerned about weight get one with a smaller monitor. You can always hook it up to a docking station when you are home and use a real monitor. Also if battery life is really imporant to you dont get a model that you cant remove the batter (some MAC models you can't remove the battery), this is important because you can buy a spare battery and switch out during long periods that you wont have the options to charge.

Hi there Pam!

I am an avid Mac user, and do most of my work on a Mac. If portability is a key feature, I would suggest a 13" MacBook Pro, which is what I use. The battery life is around 10 hours at best (depending on what processes/applications you run), and is considerably lighter than the 17". They are quite durable with the aluminum unibody, and very versatile.

You might even consider one of the MacBook Air models, but they have less storage space and the processor is a little slower.

And just as Amanda said, if you are not familiar with the Mac OS, there will be a learning curve, but I assure you that the ease of use is rather amazing. I have both Mac and PC systems, and I prefer the Mac because of its speed, quick and easy navigation, and processing power.

Hmm.... Maybe I should get a job at the Apple store, LOL!

Best of luck to you! Let us know whichever system you choose works out!

Hey Winston - I was looking forward to you responding. You're definitely one of the good techie resources. Hmmm...Apple should at least pay you for promoting them.

I miss my mac. I have a PC now and one of the things I hate about it is that I MUST have virus protection AND a firewall. When I owned my mac I never had virus protection, granted I also never had my mac connected to a cable modem. It died before cable was easily accessible.

I love Apple products and if I could afford to I would go back in a heartbeat.
