Default Macs in a PC world
For those of you using Macs...

What is your biggest compatibility issue?

Do you have any compatibility issues using Quickbooks for Mac with a client that might be using Quickbooks for PC? Any issues with transferring files back and forth?

Is MS Office the standard for all other projects? Are there iWork users out there? Does anyone use Nisus?

Thank you....

Hello Sue,
I have a client now that uses QB 2007 PC and I run QB 2009 for Mac. I had to do a very long search and ended up getting help from a follower through Twitter (@missbookkeeping). I haven't had any issues once I learned how to solve the compatibility issue. As far as my other projects go, I use iWork and either convert the completed documents to a .doc or a PDF. So far I have had no issues with this either. Good luck.

Hi Rikki,

Thanks so much for your reply...

I have iWork and also use Nisus. I have a potential client that has a Word document that she wants edited. I have put off buying Word because it is such a memory hog but I might just have to bite the bullet.

Thanks again!

I am working on this same issue with a client. He has a Mac and I have a PC and I am trying to figure out a way to work with him on this. Can you shed some pointers on where to look for a solution? Thanks!!

Hi Doreen,

I am presuming you addressed your question to Rikki. I hope you get a response from her, as I am curious as to how she resolved this issue. I am in the very early stages of starting my business and don't have Quickbooks yet, but I am sure I will have this same issue in the future!

Yes, that is correct! Sorry! You would think with all the technological advancements we've had in our world, we would be able to do some simple bookkeeping! I did see some promising online apps such as freshbooks.com

Thanks!

I haven't got any VA jobs yet, but I've been using Macs for a couple years now. I use NeoOffice, which is free online and does all the basics that Microsoft Office does. The only problem I have had with it is if you do a lot of fancy formatting to a document, it doesn't always look exactly the same on a pc. But anything regular documents and spreadsheets go back and forth with no problem.
One way to solve the formatting problem is to make your document into a pdf, which preserves formatting. NeoOffice does that for free as well. Pdfs can not be edited though, so that doesn't work for a work in progress.
