Default Help Selecting Printer!
HI,

I'm trying to figure out how to choose a new printer for my business. I would like to purchase an HP because I heard the ink in inexpensive. I have author's that I work with that will be needing their media/press kits printed and sent to various locations. I try to email when needed(cutting down on paper) but some locations request to receive information by mail. I need to be able to effectively print press releases, photos, letters and various media types. I'm looking at wal-marts site and trying to select between a...

I love, love, love my Dell color laser printer! I bought it in Jan '09 & got free shipping. They have good deals this time of year. Check it out.

The color is gorgeous! My old place of work had an Xerox color laser & the colors were drab & the print was waxy & you couldn't write over it. It was over three times what I paid for my Dell.

Dell 2135cn - it's an older model & they probably don't make it anymore, but it prints gorgeous color! The supplies are a little expensive - about $100 per cartridge & it has 4 cartridges- black, cyan, magenta & yellow. I just replaced all the colors, recently. I still have plenty of black.

I don't really need color printing, but I paid less than $400 for this printer. When I print code - all that lovely color coding - I am soooo happy that I got this printer!

Mekiwa - I am so glad you asked this question, as I am also in the market for a new printer. I currently have an HP and have never been real impressed with it, but it was on clearance, so I took a chance. The ink cartridges are fairly inexpensive when you compare to other brands, but the color is really bad (especially red) and it seems like I am constantly replacing the cartridges. So, make sure you take that into consideration, as well. Even though the cartridges are cheaper, they may not last as long, so you end up spending more in the long run.

I'll be interested to see what others recommend. I don't use my printer often, but I do need to print high quality proofs for brochures and other marketing materials. Once they are approved, I take them to Staples and have them print the higher quantities.

I have the latest HP Photosmart Premium all-in-one printer and have mixed feelings about it. Love the multi-page scanning feature and the fax is handy for the odd occasions that I need it. The color printing aspect has been so-so and it can be a tad temperamental unlike my b/w HP Laserjet P1102w which is wonderfully reliable. I'm not very impressed with the color print quality and only use it for in-house projects and last-minute printing needs; not for client work. I think it's more economical and you get better results by using a professional printer, especially for large projects.

Our 6 year old HP 7400 all-in-one printer started to fizzle out right before Christmas so I researched several different printers as we were trying to steer away from the HP brand because of the cost of the ink. We actually consider the Kodak line of printers but read several reviews on the poor quality of document print out as they are more geared toward photo-quality. Between my husband's business and my VA work we do more document than picture printing, so decided against the Kodak brand.

We also looked at Lemark, Canon, and Epson, as well, and realized the price of ink for these printers was just as pricey if not pricier. After all that we ended up purchasing another HP, an Office Jet Pro 8600 Plus (all-in-one). We are very happy with our decision; hopefully, it lasts as long as our old HP.

HTH!

We've had two HPs (each was about $100) in the past few years - they've both worked as intended, but they're not super impressive. I don't do a lot of high-end printing though so I've been happy with them for what we've needed to do.

I agree that the ink is not terribly expensive, though we do go through it fast it seems. One nice thing is that many of the big office supply chains will take your old ink cartridges and give you a dollar or two off your next ink purchase, so that does help keep that cost down a bit.

All in all, I'm happy with our HP printer but I think if I was going to print things for clients or for a marketing packet, etc. I'd invest in something higher-end, HP or otherwise.

So, I've been looking at the Epson Workforce line of all-in-one printers. I have one at my part-time job and it works pretty well, the color is good, and the ink is fairly inexpensive. However, I don't use it there very often, so I am wondering if anyone else has owned one and could share their experience. Thank you.

I'm very happy with my HP LaserJet CP1525nw. My only qualm is that it prints very slowly (8ppm), but I'm usually not in a rush.

If you are still looking for a printer (and live in the States) I just saw an ad from Officedepot for a truckload printer sale. It may just be this week only but there are some good deals worth checking out.
