Freeycle - free office furniture and hardware
I've spoke with few VA who could not afford to purchase a desk, chair or any office furnitures for their business establishment.

There is a great program, called Freecyle. I am member of this group in my area and I've seen many people offering their unwanted office furnitures for free. I've also seen people posting on freecyle looking for desk and was sucessful locating one.

Also...

If you wish to rid clutters or furnitures in your home to make more room for your office but don't have the time to take them to Goodwill or set up garage sales - you can turn to Freecyle and post items you don't want. Any interested party would come and take them off your hands.

You can check freecyle in your area and sign up for free.

Freecycle is a great concept and is a great way to recycle your own 'leftover' goods - thanks for sharing this resource!

We use it all the time. Having twins and sending them to a Waldorf school, you do NOT buy new clothes, they will be trashed within a week!

Now we have a bunch of stuff that we are about to list this weekend. Kids clothes, hamper, old kiddie hangars, bag of toys... You get the picture.

Yes, I love FREECYLE very much! You basically would find anything you want/ need for your family. I have a member of Freecycle for about a year. Love it!

I'm a freecycle junkie too! I've been using it over a year. I was fortunate enough to even find a very nice spare fridge on there! Now we can food in bulk. It seems to save us quite a bit of money!

I was a member of freecycle once.. but... I unsigned up for it because of ALL the emails.. I guess it would have just been smarter to just uncheck that box where you get email notifications of all new listings!

It's something to look into again though, especially since we are buying a new house.. that's bigger.. and we sure do need stuff for it!

Thanks for the reminder.

Shannon

Shannon,

I would think there's an option - you can choose instant notification, or once a day notification or once a week with new listings, or none

At least in my area those options was available.

In my area the notification is an option. But things go really quick so if you don't reply right away, the items are usually already promised. Our area seems to do it on a first come, first serve basis. Therefore the first response gets first dibs. Yes, all of the mail is a nuisance but I just weed through it. Nowadays I don't even read jokes forwarded from my friends. I'm so busy! If it's not business related it gets deleted.
