Default Fax Machine
I have efax but find myself needing to actually fax hard copies at times. Don't want to invest in any expensive equipment so thought I'd find out what you all use.

So far I have avoided needing an actual fax machine, I just scan whatever it is and then fax via email.

Carol,
I have one of those all in one printer/fax/scanner and my phone bundle comes with a "virtual" number for a fax which I can use, but I have found that most clients and vendors have moved to e-mail and documents arrive as pdf's and I can print them if I need a hard copy. I create a PDF either via scan or print and attach to an e-mail just as Tess does.

Cheers!!

Thanks for your input. Right now I'm also scanning and sending via email. Do either of you use efax?

Hi Carol,
I have an 4 in one Printer/scanner/copier/fax machine. So I can scan hard copies and then email or fax them off. A multi purpose machine would be a good investment for you instead of paying a monthly fee for faxing services that you might only use once a month or less.

I have used efax and myfax but closed my accounts because I didn't use it as much as expected.

I was very lucky and found a fax machine on e-bay - for just under £1.00 - approximately £$1.50 - I picked it up from the seller's local train station where she met me - she even threw in 2 replacement ink cartridges which were worth over (around) $50. I have found it rather useful especially to return forms which I have had to sign and send back - its so much quicker than post - the government agencies here in the UK are dinosaurs and haven't gotten around to email yet.

I have a four in one machine as well but rarely use the fax function. The last fax went out 3 weeks ago at 3 a.m. to fax number "2" ... that darned cat again!

If you really need a fax machine I would look into the Freecyle group in your area. Freecycle is a Yahoo group and is basically a fee online garage sale. I was able to get a lot of office supplies for free. Check the free section of Craig's List also

I use Myfax service to send and receive faxes as needed, but truthfully I don't really use it that often and I'm thinking of cancelling it. At the moment I need to scan and the send the fax, so really I can just send it by email. Initially, I may need to find out the appropriate email address, but I fax maybe 1 to 2 time per month.

Really in my opinion not worth it. When I need a signature I use EchoSign for electronic signature from my clients.

My husband has a fax machine that's a fairly old model. I really thought I would need it more, but I've just used the online services.

Truth be told, I've only ever needed to send one fax (and that was for a test for someone) so I haven't bothered to upgrade.
