Question Desktop to Laptop??
I am needing to transfer all my work related documents and emails from my desktop to my laptop. I usually do all my work related tasks on my desktop and have recently discovered it needs to go see the doctor, lol. So therefore I need all work related items moved to my laptop. Any suggestions on what would be the best way to do this?

Thank you -

Well, you could try to network them locally but that can be a real pain, honestly
We have a big external hard drive that you just put everything on - hook it up via USB (it's literally plug-and-play) and then you hook it up to the other computer via USB and move it with a click there. The external hard drive is a great backup storage facility as well - this is the one we have (but you wouldn't necessarily have to have one this big)

Hi Kena
That particular model is out of stock apparently, I just noticed - but you can get external hard drives anywhere - even at Target and WalMart) if you do want to order one from the site I sent you just search for 'external hard drive' and then find one that has a decent amount of space for a price you can afford.

External drives are an excellent way to backup all of your information and not overload your computer hard drive. Their prices have really come down in the last year or two and can hold a ton of information. I recommend that everyone get one to help protect all of your client's as well as your own documents, photos, etc.

What about back up sites available online such as IBackup, Second Copy, or Xdrive? I have not used these sites, only heard of them and considered them as a possibility. The veterans may have some additional insight on these websites.

You can also use gotomypc. It's great. I not only have it on my 4 computer (2 laptops, 1 desktop pc, and 1 desktop mac), I have all my clients to get it as well and to give me access to their computer, so I can keep their outlook updated and check their emails.

Does an online application like GoToMyPC have *room* for an entire hard drive's worth of files and folders though? I think for the moving of that much 'stuff' you'd need something robust. I'd also be fearful of losing something in the upload/download.
