Default DELL, HP or OTHERS?
Hi Everyone,

What computer brand do you use and how is it better from the other brands?

We don't use name brands. We go to a little computer store and they build our computers for us. I had bought a brand years ago at a big box computer store and it was no where near as good as the custom made ones, and they aren't that much more expensive. You can specify how much memory you want, how much storage, etc. and if something needs to be replaced it's so much easier.

I completely agree.... Built computers are the best (for desktops anyhow). One problem with brandnamed computers is that most of the hardware is proprietary, so if the simplest thing goes wrong, you almost always have to call in a tech to fix it and to upgrade it. With homebuilt computers, you can have a better computer for less cost (usually) and you can add and upgrade components whenever you choose.

I think laptops are different in that you can't just open up the case and fix or change things out (at least I don't think you used to be able to do that).

As far as brandnames go, though, I refuse to go with Dell and I'll probably choose an HP when I get my laptop (not firm on that, though).

I agree with Dell laptops, I have known so many people who use them and have had problems with them.

As for me, I am a Dell supporter. I had my last Dell desktop for 6 years and only got rid of it because I needed to upgrade. I still plan to use it for my boys to learn to use a PC on. I have recently upgraded to a new dell desktop and a laptop and really like them both.

I also got a great deal on them by using the Dell outlet.

We have a VAIO, a Toshiba, and an HP (all laptops) - we have had a Dell and an ASUS (laptops also). Technically I guess we still have the Dell as it's alive, just put away as it's awfully slow now (quite old and very well traveled) but it was a good solid tool for a LONG time and I was really exceptionally hard on it for a number of years, but it kept on ticking

I can't say that I have a brand preference among those that we own - we buy our technology based on a combination of factors - brand plays into it to some degree but we look more at the individual features on each model for the price, etc.

Are you shopping around for a new computer?

Thank you, ladies!

I didn't want to buy a new computer because my laptop is fine, and has all the softwares that I need in it, but my boyfriend wants to get me one. He said he wants a nice home office for me so aside from the computer he's actually getting me the 4 in one printer which I think is included in the package. He's still waiting for my go signal though to go ahead and purchase the brand that I like. So really, this is just a thought for now and I was just wondering if any of you use a certain brand and why.

My husband has been a computer geek since they first came out. We have nearly a dozen computers in our home since we run 3 virtual businesses and he has his own web design company and is a digital coach. He always recommends Dell and we've used Dells for years. That's my two cents worth.

I have a Dell desktop and a Dell laptop. My desktop harddrive crashed 10 months into the warranty and Dell replaced it without any problem. (well, actually, I replaced it with the new one they sent me and helped me install via the phone. Twice. The replacement was faulty and so they sent me another one. I replaced 2 harddrives in 3 days. It took hours and it wasn't any fun) That was 2 years ago and everything is fine now. No problems at all.

My Dell laptop needed the cover replaced. It began separating through faulty design after 18 months. I sent it to Dell and they replaced it under the warranty but I was without it for 4 days. It's my main computer but at least I have the desktop to use.

Despite these issues, I would still purchase from them again. Stuff happens with any computer and Dell has always given me great customer service. I don't have any complaints about them.

I have a Dell laptop and have had a Dell desktop for about the past 4 years and haven't had a problem with either one. My husband has a company purchased Gateway that has been good to him as well. He did recently have to replace the motherboard but it was under warranty. The tech that came to fix it told him that Toshiba computers keep them the busiest in terms of repair.
