I have my laptop, that I love, but it is heavy and large for transporting. But I can still keep in touch with my cell phone because I can access all my email accounts with my cell phone so I know I am not missing something important when I am on the go. Currently don't go to a customer location, so this might change in the future if that happens. Will be watching for review so I can decide which way to go when the time comes.

I love to get new gadgets to play with

Robyn

I got one, a Lenovo about three weeks ago. It is pretty cool but I got it mainly for if I am travelling and want to stay on top of email and make brief replies. I have a BlackBerry but sometimes the keys can drive you crazy when you want to send out something quickly. I don't really like the web surfing experience as at times it is not compatible with some sites but all in all I like it and since I have a main laptop that I work from daily, I'm not too bothered with the size.

Has anyone purchase the netbook from Verizon. I was thinking about it myself and purchasing a blackberry also.

I am with T-mobile and I cant get a signal if underground. They are running a special get a blackberry and a get netbook for free.

However, my phone charge will be $200 a month compare to $98 i pay. I just went on travel with my laptop and it didn't work well in the plane. Seats to cramp.

I am thinking if I should purchase the netbook by itself and just link the internet to it when I need it.

Thanks
Julian

Julian,
Hi. Wondering if you have done anything yet. When my laptop died last week I spent the weekend looking at netbook options. I ended up buying one at BestBuy. It was the ASUS eee 10.1. I looked at the ATT options but had to committ to 2yrs with the aircard. I chose to buy without the card because of the increase in my cell bill and hotspots are pretty easy to find.

In one day of use I decided that the size was nice but I needed more power since it did not have a hard drive etc.. and it would be my primary work computer; so I traded it in for a laptop that was only fifty dollars more.

But I just wanted to let you know that there were options other than the contract netbooks and not too much more expensive. I love my blackberry so you can't go wrong with it, with or without a data plan. I agree the internet is hard to "read" with cell phones. It is a little easier with Opera Mini but not much. I gave up on the data plan.

Good luck in your decision,
Diana

I have a netbook from Dell and I love it! But, not for working. Its good for email, surfing the internet, things like that. It does not have a lot of memory space and, to me, would not be worth the money for more memory. The keyboard is a little small, so not good for major typing. Because it has such close quarters it hurts my carpal tunnel a bit. It does run slow at times, it can just over load itself sometimes. I use mine mostly for storing photos, surfing the net, things like that. I bought mine back when it was only like under $280.... so I got a great deal! Its also great because it fits right into my purse or the diaper bag (my other purse).

Considered it but bought the small Macbook Pro instead. My phone lets me check email and browse websites easily.

I have a netbook (by ASUS) and I love it. I have Remote Desktop Connectivity setup on it too.

My kids each have one. I thought they would be great for hauling around. Fit in a purse. Lightweight. But I can't read the darn thing. The screen really is too small. I think even for someone that has perfect vision, doing any amount of work on it would be difficult.

My plan is to purchase a netbook this year for travel and when I'm heading out and know I'll have to wait around. I use a back up syncing program that will allow me sync my working Laptop with my Netbook and I'll use it when I'm traveling. I don't plan on using it as my main computer system, simply for the size of screen and I don't want to have to invest in a screen as well.

I think Netbooks are a great idea to supplement your current system, but I can't imagine it being the main system simply because I don't think they are yet robust enough to handle regular and constant daily use.

I have a four 3 year old Acer with a 15"-ish screen. My son has a Netbook with about a 10" screen. My Acer was in the shop getting an upgrade. I used my sons' Netbook for about a week. It served its purpose, but I could not imagine having to deal with a screen so small on an ongoing basis. Especially if I was editing or creating spreadsheets or large documents. But that is just me and my preference. I think I am half blind from staring at computers for the last 10 years, so I have to use larger fonts. This is where I need to have a larger screen to get everything on one page without scrolling left, right, up, left, right, etc.
If I was just getting started and my funds were really tight, I would buy a Netbook in a heartbeat. In fact, Verizon has a special right now where you can get one from them for $30 if you sign up for a 2 year contract for their wireless internet. I am not sure about the exact terms though.
