Default Anyone have a netbook?
I was thinking if my tax return is decent, I might invest in a Netbook. I have a iBook I love, but it was injured in a catastrophic fall from the top bunk bed when I foolishly lent it to my eight year old.

I was browsing them for my mom and saw that some of them have really huge hard drives and I was like, completely in love. Anyone have one?

I don't have one, but have been pondering the possibility of one. I like to go work in coffee shops or at the library and while I can take my laptop, I'd like something a bit lighter and more compact. If you get one, let us know how you like it. And please feel free to post back any research you do on them.

I think I saw a tweet the other day that Inc. Magazine had done a review or reviews of netbooks.

Mine is coming today! I'm so excited. I decided on a 10.1" Acer Aspire One after a lot of reading reviews. I think the Asus one is good too, but I liked the feel of the keyboard of the the Acer one better.

My Mother-in-law got one a couple weeks ago. She LOVES it. It is so lightweight. She can whip it out and surf and go thru emails SOOOO easily. The fact that it just fits in her purse and go is wonderful.

So funny that you should bring this up because as a newbie I am trying to decide if a laptop or netbook would be best! Besides the Acer Aspire One are there any other good netbooks.... I am leaning towards the netbook but not sure.

I was looking at the Acer Aspire but ended up getting the Dell Mini 12. Wasn't sure if I could go that small or not, LOL!

Hello,

I've purchased an Acer Aspire One netbook about 2 months ago, and to be honest with you, I'm not very happy with it, fortunately i have a backup laptop.
I mostly decided to purchase it for the size. I wanted one which will fit into my thin briefcase. I thought that the screen size didn't matter because I can easily connect an external monitor/keyboard/mouse etc, but my expectations have not been fully met.
Although the harddrive is 160GB, it's quite slow in the navigation.
I have also found that there are websites which are not quite compatible with the screen size, so occasionally i have to adjust the size to 75% in order for me to scroll through the page properly.
I also wanted to install several programs like Photoshop and dreamweaver which has slowed down the machine.
I think it's a great machine if you just want to use for simple browsing, e-mailing, or if you want to take with you to clients for presentation purposes, but in my opinion, it should not be used as a substitute for your existing machine.

Thank you Susan for your review. I go back and forth on the investment and I was wondering how people liked it.

I am also in the market for a netbook. Can't wait to hear more reviews so I can make my decision.

Oh boy. Have I mentioned my gadget addiction?

I have an Acer One and was comparing it against the Dell Mini 9 prior to purchase. I decided not to go with the Dell (which was a tough call, I love Dell) because their Mini 9 has an unusual keyboard. Someone posted a picture here so you can get a good look at the keyboard lay out: http://mike.peay.us/blog/archives/454/dsc07225. It's missing function keys for one, and the apostrophe is in the wrong place!

I didn't want to have to alter my typing, so that was the main decision killer for me.

I *love* my Acer. I wouldn't want to work for long hours with it because yes, it's small, but it's really great for browsing on the go and keeping in touch with work and life. The screen is amazing, they keyboard is comfortable, and all around I really enjoy using it.

Some Walmart, Sam's Club, and Radio Shack stores have these in stock if you want to look, touch and feel.

I absolutely love the netbook. Its perfect for on the go. I had the 8.9" screen Acer Aspire One Netbook until my son smashed something into my screen and cracked it. Now I will be investing into a 10.1 inch screen!

Portability is definitely great for us VA's

I feel gadget-unsavvy...I never heard of a netbook and had to look them up. ONce again the old adage is true that you learn something new every day!

Hi all, I have the Dell mini 12. So far I like it. It is slow compared to traditional machines, but is perfect for on the go. I am also a part-time grad student and lugging my traditional laptop around, plus books, was getting to be a bit much. So it is perfect for my needs. Also, I purchased the Dell 9 for son for Christmas, but we sent it back, it was just way too small and the keyboard layout was horrible.

I would love to get a netbook. Can't afford internet/e-mail access on my cell phone plan at the moment and so a netbook would be a good one time investment. Mainly would use it for e-mail and internet while travelling. My laptop is a 17 inch, so I prefer not to take it on trips.

I like to go to www.cnet.com to check reviews on electronics and Consumer Reports, of course. There is a review on laptops and netbooks in the Sept issue of ShopSmart (a mag put out by Consumer Reports).
