Hi there, I formed our first company (an LLP) mid-year and it was fine - I paid taxes according to the schedule for the second half of the year (both local and federal). When we moved to another state I closed the old business and filed paperwork for the new one - that was also later in the year, and again I just paid state business taxes based on the actual time the business was registered in that particular state.
I think if you're working in and on your business, especially if you have steady income from clients, it's important to establish your business as a legal entity as soon as possible.
Have you tried getting in touch with the corporations division in your state (usually part of the Secretary of State) to find out what they say?
