Default Goals?
I'm in the process if developing my business plan and am a bit stuck on time specific goals.
The eventual goal is to have at least 30 hours per week of work so that I can be completely self sufficient. What I have in the break down so far is:

3 months -
10 Hours of work per week
Website up and running
Active on networkign sites
Policies and marketing material complete
Release press release.
market to local business

6 months -
20 hours of work per week
3 regular clients
Published advertisements
market to recruiters

9 months -
25 hours of work per week
5 regular clients
market to writers and artists

12 months -
30 hours of work per week
8 regulars
12 month anniversary prss release
Market events focus

Are these realistic. What do I need? what should I change

I think that you are on the right path with planning out your goals with the information that you have listed!

Something good to add would be an action plan of some sorts as to the strategies that you will implement in order to achieve your goals...for instance, what steps will you take in order to secure 10 hours of work? Will you attend 2 local networking events per month; will you join at least 1 trade association (which one?) in order to learn more and connect with other VA's for possible subcontracting work, etc.

In terms of realistic...I've heard of people being very successful with marketing and reaching their capacity within six months, and I've heard it has taken others longer to gain their first client, so it all depends on you "working your plan"!

And you are definitely in the right forum for others to give you the tips on getting that done!

Much success to you!

I think it's so wonderfu that you're setting goals for yourself for the next twelve months.
I'd suggest starting with your first block of goals, the three month mark and list the smaller steps you can take to reach your goals - break it down into daily, weekly, and monthly and then follow through - you'll be amazed at how doing so will help you reach your larger goals!

Suggestions for smaller, stepping-stone goals:
linkbuilding (if you have a website - if not, that's a goal!)
creating various policies (each of these could be a daily goal)
write and proof press releast - get feedback - edit accordingly
get feedback on website - do updates accordingly
gather info on where to submit release to
get info on local media for release submission
research marketing materials (biz cards, postcards, email blasts, etc.)
prepare contracts and client agreement docs
prepare client welcome packet

etc. etc.

Your goals look totally reasonable to me - please keep up posted on how you do moving forward!

Yeah I definately need to write up a step by step plan to reach each goal.
I'm in the middle of developing the whole plan as a PPt preso. I might post it here when done to get some feedback from you guys?

I'd also try to be aware that for every hour of work you do, you'll have an hour of admin/marketing/networking to do to reach your goals and grow your business.

The key is to first create your goals and then work towards them. I'm always surprised to find out when people don't have a clear plan or purpose for their business because it makes it so much more harder to get to where you want to be. I know because I was one of these people. Now I plan, organise and schedule myself so I can see my path, where I came from and where I am working towards.

I'm currently reading a book, that's says for each goal you should write down five things you MUST do every day to accomplish that goal. For example, if you are on a diet - you need to drink 8-10 glasses of water, exercise for 30 minutes, eat fruits and vegetables, etc. (I can't think of the last 2 things )
