Hello All,

Important info, maybe not just for Newbies - I found this organisation to be such a valuable tool and wanted to make sure everyone knows about their existence and the free services they provide locally. Their website is www.score.org but once you are on there you can put in your zip code to find your local SCORE office where they have experienced people that will have an answer to just about every business question you could have. I spoke with a very nice gentlemen from our local office and he made me feel much better about the things I didn't have a clue about and said that he will check with me periodically to see if I have any more business questions or need his assistance. I was very impressed.

Tanja, it's great to hear that you've had such a good experience with SCORE. There have been a few conversations on the forums about experiences there, with varying opinions but very positive on the whole. I think it's an amazing resource and a great concept. And of course all of the mentors are volunteers which is saying a lot for their efforts.

Definitely a resource worth utilizing!

Tess, I agree they are some great folks. If it hadn't been for my boyfriend I wouldn't have found out about their existence this early on, but he had used them before and told me what a great resource they are. Otherwise it might have taken me a while to use them for the million questions I have.

I also met with a S.C.O.R.E. representative and he was extremely helpful to me. He offered suggestions and gave me a lot of information, particularly about local area businesses that I am interested in targeting, and followed up with me on several occasions. It was a very positive experience and I would recommend it to anyone.

That is so great to hear! They have been around forever, which says a lot. I know when I started my business in 1985 I met with them. You might want to see if they offer any events too. Often times they host mini seminars.

I just found out about SCORE and have a meeting pending. I've been told they will help me with wading through the forms and things I need to do for paying taxes properly. A great resource to anyone who wants to start their own business.
