I haven't tried an agency but would be interested in trying it. Has anyone gone down that path??

I would definitely work with an agency. I have worked for years on-site through various agencies and have gleaned a lot of education, experience, and a good sense of what I want/don't want to do in addition to meeting some wonderful people in the process.

I am not aware of ANY agencies.... will be watching this thread hoping to see some agencies and learn about any experiences.

In my case, we actually set up on own while we don't discount the possibilities of getting some clients from other agencies. As long as we can handle it, I think it is practical to be able to start on your own and at the same time have some connections with other agencies.

I like your idea of being a subcontractor and gaining experience that way. I will definitely look into that as well as agencies since I am still employed full-time and will be establishing my business while doing so.

Thanks!!

I subcontract (do consider them my client) in addition to marketing my own clients. FYI - I just looked up A CLAYTON'S SECRETARY to give timely info -- $25 fee to join and then $125/year. They do not take % for fee. I am NOT going to contact them.

This is a new one for me but personally I would be a bit cagey about an agency as you would be entering "office politics" again whereas if you go it alone, you set your own rates and work in a way that will give your clients that type of service you wish to give them without third party intervention. Perhaps I have misunderstood the concept but the great thing about being a VA is independence!! Of course this will also depend on your personal circumstances as to whether you can afford to set yourself up alone or not. Good luck!!!

I am also in the same boat am an thinking about trying both in the begging to get some experience. Of course that will depend on whether or not the agency has a non-compete agreement.

I've researched several agencies and what I may not be able to live with is the pay -- I wouldn't be able to cover some of my very basic costs if I decided to work for an agency 100%.
