Default Your First Purchase Was?
Another forum I was on asked this question. I thought it was really interesting to hear responses and very helpful for newbies. Let's help them out by sharing what one of your first purchases as a VA was.

Remember purchases don't have to be material. I looked for a mentor that allowed me to subcontract. It's kept me busy for five years now.

After my business license, my next investment was for website hosting so I could get cracking on my website.

Here were my first five business purchases:

1. service contract with PostNet for address
2. business telephone line
3. web hosting & domain email
4. time with an attorney to review my contract
5. USPTO fees to trademark my logo

I started in business over 15 years ago, but the first thing I did then would still be the first now---my business license and DBA with my county. But if I didn't already have a computer, that would have been number one with the license/DBA thing second.

The first official thing I purchased for business was a business license and LLP status (I used LegalZoom for that first one) and then we moved to another state a year later and I had to close the business in the old state and re-open in the new state. That I handled myself and it was a LOT of work but I learned so much

My first purchase was a book, that's a few years old now but I still recommend, The 2-Second Commute by Christine Durst and Michael Haaren. It really helped me focus on how I wanted to move forward. My second was my domain name, and my phone number.

I think my first purchase was actually the VAF Guide and then my domain name and web hosting.

My first purchase was a laptop. I already had one, but I thought it would be best if I didn't mix my personal files with business ones.
