Oh, I love seeing this conversation....I am very new here and the whole VA arena. Love learning from you all and part-time is definitely what I am interested in to begin with.

I am having to try this part-time for right now, while I am building up my business. I am working for 2 businesses right now, one I have to commute 2 days a week for a 9:30 to 2 and the other I work from home. I am putting in about 20 hours a week into both. Hopefully, this will be full time, but for these 2 businesses, I really can't put anymore hours. I have 2 young children and the hours are flexible enough for me to work while they are in school.

Sorry I know this is an old thread, and if anybody else knows the answer please...

How did you find someone to 'subcontract' with?

Thanks for all of the encouraging post in this thread. I plan to start my VA business fairly soon too. I wasn't sure how many VA's actually worked full-time vs. part-time. I appreciate all of the comments!

I started my practice full time out of necessity - I had recently relocated and couldn't find work and needed to start generating an income asap. It's funny how it lights a fire under you to make it work quickly when the wolf's knocking at the door and you don't have the security of a traditional job to back you up! Definitely sink or swim.

@Lilly,

I would like to talk with you if you wouldn't mind. May I email you? I have my own business as well but am struggling with finding clients. I would like to talk with you about the work you do in the evenings. I see you provide QuickBooks services and that is definitely something that can be done in the pm.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Warmly,

Recently, I quit my PT job to make more time for my VA business. The PT job was getting in the way of accomplishing what I wanted with my business. And, I was working so many hours that I was always exhausted. Working my biz and the PT job completely wore me out!

I have 2 very steady clients with lots of work thrown at me!

Additionally, I didn't get any insurance or benefits from my PT job..so I don't have to compensate for the loss of it.

I don't have 40 paid hours a week - I work about 20 or so. I make more with my biz than I did at my former occupation, so I work fewer hours for more money. When I figured that out, the choice of leaving my PT job was easy

Hi, I am also just starting. I am not working full time, just part time and I am hoping this will work out.

Good luck.

I would say that working after 5 pm is going to be a little tough on you when it comes to clients. I know that the clients that I work with request that I be open all hours of the day or from 8:30 to 5:30 M-F. I assume that if you have a job that you can take messages or answer emails it could be possible but you might run into a problem finding clients. I started to become a VA full-time while I was a full-time Administrative Assistant at the local University and it worked since I can check emails and answer phones while at work. Yes my boss approved of the work also.

I have also been pleased to read this thread. As a full time worker who is looking to build VA business on evenings and at weekends, it has given me renewed hope that my plan is possible.

Hi:

My problem is that my real estate business has gotten so busy (this is the start of the "busy" season) that I have little time to work at my V.A. business.

My goal is to do both.

Penelope

I too am so glad to read these responses. I work full-time and started my business "officially" in January. I have 2 clients, but am finding it hard to keep up with all the social media, reading and learning. I wish that I could do it full-time and really make it happen, but I can't for financial reasons. Do you think I'll know when it's time to take it to the next level?

Hi:

You will know that you can take it to the next level when the finances are right.

Good luck.
