Default Why should your business remain home-based? - TargetStars Blog
If you own a business and were presented with the choice to work from home or from a location outside of the home which would you choose? I think it would be safe to say most would prefer working from home. Therefore, it was not a surprise to me when I came across this article stating that the majority of small business owners who started their business at home continue to remain home-based. Oftentimes, the desire to save money is cited as the main reason why many small business owners choose to remain at home.

However, I believe one of the main reasons that plays a role... Click here to read the rest of this post at the TargetStars Blog.

Another great article, LaTosha!

I wish I could accurately assess how much time I've wasted in office environments chatting with co-workers who just stop by!

My biz would have to be quite large before I would consider moving it outside my home. And even then, it would have to be within walking distance or I would resist. Oh & it would have to have a washer & dryer, cuz one of the biggest perks of a home based business is that you can put in a solid 8 hours of work & get your laundry done too!

Thanks for the article LaTosha,
I love working from home and originally saving money was the reason but so many other things have sprung up too, like choice of working hours, no commute and of course no wasted time.

I do have co-workers, they are here on VAF!

Cheers!!

You bring the light to home businesses and give more people the push that they need to start their home based business. This article definetly makes since. Thanks for the insight.

Really good article and it has made me stop and think - yes, when was the last time I saw a home-based business on the front cover of a magazine? One would believe if this is the way of the future, then more publication time should be spent on successful home-based businesses.

Cheers

I am really glad you enjoyed the post. Lezly, I totally agree it would take a lot for me to even contemplate the idea of not being home-based. Who wouldn't want the option to work in their pajamas?! Like one of the commentors on my blog said,"Long live home-based businesses!"

Amen to that!

I cannot think of a single thing that would motivate me to take my work outside the home. Especially with my husband working from home with me and our baby girl here as well - it's ideal and we're blessed. I'm SO grateful for all of the technology that allows us to operate this way!

You go girl! Great article! I am moving to a colder environment. Commuting in the snow? No thanks!

I'm probably going to be the only one here to say this but I wouldn't mind having a small office close-by which served the public directly. It is not that I do not love working from my home office...I do...and all the great perks which come along with it as mentioned here. But I do like working face-to-face with customers. (FYI, I do volunteer and attend functions, etc. to compensate.)

I like the idea of someone walking into my shop and consulting with me face-to-face about their needs. Sometimes phone calls and emails just don't suffice.

In the early years, I would do 'house calls' to seniors who wanted help with correspondence, paying their bills and tutoring on how to use a computer. I enjoyed that work very much.

So I can't say that if given the chance to open a shop, I would pass entirely. I would never give up being a business owner. But I think I would like the diversity of both working from home and from my own office. (I am in a warm weather climate and I have no small children.)

As for working for someone else; in someone else's office, well that is a definite 'no'.
