Default Virtual Assistant Certification Vs. Secretarial Vocational School
Hello Everyone!

My name is Mariana and I'm new to VA.
Outside of the VA world what seems to be most important in terms of education is either from a College or University, hence the reference here to several VA Certifications.

Aside from an Associate Degree (and currently working on a Bachelor) I have a Secretarial Degree from a Vocational School.

In order to obtain the Secretarial Degree I had to assist "In Class" for 5 months, Monday-Friday (8am-4pm).
Now looking at all this VA Certifications I'm wondering what they are and if they indeed offer the same as a certification from a Vocational School or are they more important in the VA business (hence the "VA" specific title).

If so, to jump start my business am I better off getting a VA Certification?

Thank you so much!

Hi Mariana,

If you are already in school DO NOT STOP Your education outside of the VA industry is just as important if not more important than a VA Certification.

You do not need to be VA Certified to learn how to be a VA. You can take small courses on becoming a VA if you do not know the ins and outs of being a VA. These courses are at nominal fees verses college fees.

IMHO I say continue with your current courses and add the VA courses after you have completed your degree especially if you have not had any administrative assistant experience.

Once you are done with your current classes then take courses to help you in your VA business.

I hope that helps,
Andrea~

Andrea,

Thank you for your insight. In terms of College I plan to stay there, I'm sure it's very important. I was more concerned on the Secretarial Vocational School vs. VA Certifications.
You have answered my question! thank you. :-)

In the future I will definetely look into some VA Certifications to further my understanding and knowledge.

Just be sure that the certifications you are getting are based on NEW learning, and not just 'oh, you have this experience and therefore pay us and we will give you a badge and initials to put behind your name.'
