Hi all! I wasn't sure where to post this, but I did find one older post without a lot of information on the same thing posted in this section so...

Has anyone dealt with Thumbtack.com, "Your Marketplace for Local Services"? I keep getting e-mails from them on the line of this one I received this morning:

Hey there,

I'm reaching out to you because Thumbtack is getting a lot of job leads for transcription experts, and I'm looking for another transcription expert who is interested in taking on more clients.

After checking out your website I think you are a great fit for Thumbtack and I'd love to start sending you job leads. Please fill out a few details about your skills and rates, and I'll start forwarding you potential new clients.

If you have any questions about what Thumbtack can provide, please don't hesitate to ask.

A previous e-mail in April was a bit different and also said it was completely free.

I'm just not used to receiving unsolicited e-mails like this with what seems like a good thing and there isn't a catch (I guess I'm a bit too cautious!)

I signed up for thumbtack. It seems legit but they do charge a fee if you accept a lead from them - if I recall correctly, it's either an upfront fee when you reply to a lead or a back-end fee when you accept the job, your choice at the time you get the lead and decide to respond.

I have never heard of thumbtack.com. Have you received many jobs/clients from them?

I received the same emails and eventually did send in my information. I do from time to time get job leads, and have responded to a couple. There is no membership fee like with Elance, but there is fee per job accepted. And yes Stacey it is you either pay upfront or in the end if you accept the job. I just click pay after job is accepted that way I don't pay unless I actually take the job. So far no luck, but like I said I only replied to a couple and haven't received a ton of leads from them, but I figure no loss as I don't pay anything upfront.

I have never heard of them, but I am new to all of this and just joined this forum (which is great by the way) Would you recommend joining the likes of Thumback in order to get some leads and get things up and running?
