Hello all! I just found this site yesterday and am so glad I did. I'm currently working a 9-5 job in an office and simply cannot stand it any longer, so would like to enter the world of VAing. However, I'm not interested in starting my own business, but rather working for a firm that's already established. Can anyone give me any credible sites to check out and offer places where I might find work? I have over 12 years experience in admin work in a variety of fields (technology, food, financial).

I can't vouch for any particular organization/agency as I've not worked directly with any but I am familiar with two of our members who utilize the services of multi-VAs within their practice. I trust both of them immensely and would vouch for their legitimacy and professionalism any day - one, Erin Blaskie, has actually recently placed an ad on the boards here looking for VA partners, and the other is Kathie Thomas although I honestly don't know if she's taking on new VAs actively right now and she does charge a fee after successful application to join her team. You will find info about joining her company here.

There are surely numerous others that I'm just not aware of, even within our own membership, perhaps someone else who does currently work on a VA team can pitch in their two cents here too

One other thing - regardless of not becoming a business entity you will likely still be responsible for your own taxes, etc. when you contract with these teams.

I am the owner of a Multi-VA company that specializes in marketing for Coaches. I don't know what other owners do, but I am willing to share my philosophy in sub-contracting work.

Personally, I do not bring people onto my team who have less than a year of experience unless I KNOW they can handle juggling the responsibilities of running their own business, have skills that I am in need of immediately and I believe my team could not do without this person. Of course, I'm that picky with all my subcontractors, even when they have 20 years of experience.

Again, this is my own personal philosophy. I suggest you get really clear on what services you'd like to offer to a team. I also suggest you get clear on how much you want to be paid for your services. Some team owners have a set fee that they pay all their subs. Others will negotiate based on the type of work.

There are some intern programs out there where you can earn very little money to get some experience with a team. By very little, I mean $8 an hour or so.

Tess provided some very good links to review! Let people get to know you! That is how I met some of the best VAs that I work with now! When you start out, be absolutely sure you can do the job, commit to it, and turn the job around at the expectations that are set. Believe it or not, I gave two, not just one new VA a chance to work on a project and they both fell off the face of the earth. I ended up losing the project, not the client thankfully! But the point is to set your self apart from the pack and deliver results! You just never know who may be watching!
