Default Small Business Grants
I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge of small business grants available for single women (no kids)?

I've done several searches and everything I find wants you to buy a "grant kit", which I'd rather not do if I can help it. I doubt that I'd qualify for any, but it can't hurt to find out.

TIA

Don't get scammed into paying a fee for a grant. That defeats the whole purpose of the grant. Your best bet will be to check with SCORE or your local SBA.

thanks. I'll do that. You'd think I'd know more about where to find grants working for a non-profit, but the only ones I know about are USDA, DOJ, SBA and Tourism Grants...non of which I qualify for...lol

I would recommend checking through your state web site. I live in IL and our state provides a lot of good resources for business owners and new businesses. Also, you may want to check throough your county web site as well.

Let us know what you find out!

I agree, check with the state or city government websites. Maybe not in the form of grants, but I'm seeing alot of cities are giving first dibs on contracts to minority or women or minority women. If you fit into that category it may be an opportunity. Its been my experience that grants are typically readily available or maybe I just didn't know where to look.

I'm just finishing up some grant writing courses . . . . my instructor has been a successful grant writer, instructor, and grant writing author with 20+ years of knowledge and experience. She's shared during classes that it's a misconception that there are small business start-up grants. Less than 1% of grants can be found for this area. Those that are available would be through government funding and are very difficult to obtain.

I agree with Tamikar in looking within your community for minority/or women designated programs and funding. Your local SCORE office may also know of some available local funding opportunities.

Thanks for the valuable (and time saving) information. I didn't think there was much out there and now I know.

Wow 1%, that's low. I think recently since the economy died (this post is older) SBA has a grant program for new business who will be putting people to work. Usually that is not most of us. I would imagine, I'm still new. I have been considering a grant writing class. Non-profit has always been a passion of mine and thought it would be a good in.
