Default Part-Time VAs
Hello there!

For those of you who started in the virtual assistant business part-time, do you continue to complete business on a part-time basis or did you slowwllyyyyy work your way to being a virtual assistant full-time?

I have been debating this for the longest time. Although, my "hobby" turned into the business aspect of things earlier this year - I actually enjoy both working as a virtual assistant and my current full-time job at the moment.

I mean I know there are the struggles of family, working full-time, children, and managing clients, but wanted to know if others have continued their VA business on a part-time level just because it is "comfortable"

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

I say if you're happy with you're situation, stick with it! There's no rule that says you have to become a VA full-time if you don't want to. Maybe that path just isn't the right one for you right now, but maybe things will change in the future. As long as it makes you happy, there's no reason you should have to change anything.

As for me, I hated my full-time JOB, so I quit as soon as I possibly could. Had to get a part-time job a few months later to help make ends meet while my business grows, so now I work part-time outside the home in a job I truly enjoy and part-time at home in my VA business, which I also enjoy. Eventually I hope to grow my business to the point where I'm only working at home, but for now I'm happy with my situation.

Best wishes to you!

Hi Jean, I started my VA business when I chose to stay at home with my kids, so it started part-time and has always been part-time. Even though I am at home, I am committed to keeping that "professional" door open and the resume going so I can re-enter another job some day without a resume gap. Sometimes it has been REALLY part-time, sometimes too busy, but I always figured that was the beauty of the VA profession. It's as flexible as you want it to be!

I work F-T at a job I really enjoy and work on Goddess P-T. I want to transition to Goddess F-T eventually, but no rush...

Hello Ladies!

Thanks for the wonderful responses! I guess I'm in a rut as far as making that "next" step into going full-time. I mean with my full-time job - I am guaranteed a steady income each month. My VA business is extra income and doing what I love.

I wonder how many other part-time VAs are out there. Thanks again and have a great day!

Wonderful question. I am planning on working pt to start with (have not yet started, still researching). BUT...I do plan on quitting my FT job when at all possible. My husband and I have goals to meet and I will then be able to leave my current FT job (that I hate). Can't wait for that day.

With the economy as bad as it is, I am looking for a way to get some money coming in. We are wanting to get a bigger house this fall and THIS looks like a way for me to contribute while raising our son and when the next one comes along!! My MIL has me working for her. Everytime she tells someone that she will have her office manager do the task, they say, OHHHH, I want an office manager/assistant!! So, I thought, HUM!!! Then I came across a book that had info about hiring a VA. Seems like fate to me!!!

I work part-time as a VA and still have my full-time job. For me I would prefer to do the VA thing full-time and am just waiting on having enough clients that need work on a regular basis. But that is just a personal choice for me wanting to be able to be home with my children and set my own schedule. Altough like I said for the time being I work full-time at an outside job and part-time as a VA and it has been nice having the extra money and for now works out great for me.

I started part-time (still part-time with retainer clients) and some months take on additional clients/jobs that require full time hours. This works for me because my children are older and I have the house to myself most days. I think whatever works for you then go for it.

I'm working up very very slowly and to be honest I sometimes consider taking on part-time work. I really don't want to as I'd like to put as much time and energy into my VA business but someone has to put food on the table!
