Re: North American Virtual Assistant Association??
I've looked at the website over the past few months and I don't quite get it, not to mention a few alarms going off. They have made some changes over the past few months, but not enough, I don't think. The first issue I see is that it seems suspiciously similar to IVAA. I mean... there are a LOT of parallels there! In fact, there are so many similarities that it is almost uncomfortable. (IVAA vs. NAVAA, the color scheme is about the same, the certifications are essentially the same, NAVAA even uses the Globe image... which is odd if their target is North America, though it does 'focus' on North America, etc.)
But also, if you click on the membership directory... it yields -0- results. A few months ago, it did have one member listed, and I think it was the site's owner. It takes some digging around the site to finally get a name, but it looks like it was started by Dee Middlebrooks-Bernal and her husband. She advertises everywhere that she is a NAVAA certified VA, but...honestly, I think she's the only one. If you go by the membership roster... that's clearly the case. I don't know of any VA who has joined this organization.
Oh, and the Membership Directory isn't even a directory... it's a search form for the website. It's been that way for a long time, too. If I were a member and I wasn't showing up in the directory, I would speak up and insist that it be fixed. Since it hasn't been fixed, I suppose i can only naturally assume there are few members, if any.
I would be hesitant to join an organization like that, myself, just for those reasons listed above. I have other reasons, too... but I think the ones I mentioned are sufficient enough.
