I can't live without some of the Firefox add-ons:
AutoPager - autoloads the next page - so you just keep on scrolling
Google Preview - inserts web site previews in Google & Yahoo search results
Palette Grabber - creates a color palette for the current page for graphic design applications
JSView - view the source code of external stylesheets and javascripts
WebDeveloper gives a whole raft of features including window resizing, screen ruler etc etc

Basic service is free which is nice for small surveys.

www.pandora.com - My husband introduced me to this online radio and i use it daily ever since. Try it! You can create your own station with your favorite band/artist.

For MAC users:
www.adiumx.com - Connect to multiple IM accounts simultaneously in a single application, including: AOL IM, MSN, and Jabber. Beautiful, and more. They don't support Skype. I hope they will soon.
www.openoffice.org - A full-featured, office suite compatible with Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Excel.
www.cyberduck.ch - open source FTP

Very cool post! I am not a VA yet but I love all the Google docs and use them all the time. Google calendar is my fave. At work I have outlook but at home I didn't. I have gmail and decided to click the calendar tab one day and found out it has an awesome calendar program that is just as good if not better than outlook!

meanwhile, this thread is great I am adding all kinds of bookmarks!

This is a great thread.

My favourites are:

Teamviewer - www.teamviewer.com - great app for remote access, remote assistance, file sharing, whiteboard. You can be up and running in under 5 minutes.

MO Accounting Express - www.msofficeaccounting.co.uk (www.ideawins.com for the US) - for book-keeping. Can you believe it's free? Easy to use and I can send my books over to my Accountant electronically.

Paymo - www.paymo.biz - Great tool for time tracking. I like the fact that you can upload your logo and those of your clients and customise reports. Plus it has a desktop widget, so you can log in without firing up your browser

Google Docs - Need I say more?

Virtual Assistant Forums - I'm not kidding. I have learned so much on here and been made aware of resources that I wasn't aware of, and I take pride in having my finger on the pulse (so to speak).

Okay so I couldn't stop at five!

Comodo - http://www.comodo.com/products/free_products.html They have wonderful products for your PC protection and utility and best of all they're free

uTorrent - www.utorrent.com - great for downloading big files it's THE BEST Bit Torrent client ever.

Google Maps - maps.google.co.uk (maps.google.com for the US). I can quickly look up the geographical location of a place and find out the travelling distance from wherever I am. Very useful for calculating the mileage for expenses for business car journeys.

Twitter - www.twitter.com - great for getting updates on my fellow VA's!

Facebook - www.facebook.com - useful for creating a Business Page for your business which is separate to your personal profile. I'm using mine to help promote my business whilst my website is being built

GIMP - www.gimp.org - Great image manipulation software, on par with Photoshop.
