I just joined membership today and am finding a wealth of information trying to venture out into a new career. After 16 years of running my husbands construction company, the housing industry in our area (or lack there-of) is forcing us to pursue new opportunities. This VA avenue is very exciting.

I have found a Master List of start up information that is very helpful. One thing I never saw on the list is regarding insurance. Do you recommend carrying any time of insurance policies or surety bonds for your work?

Toni, I have Errors & Omissions Insurance through State Farm, health insurance through Ford Motor until 2010, then through Hubby's employer. I am looking into becoming bonded since I offer 'in-office' organizing and cleaning.

Hi Sharon - I really enjoyed your interview. You are actually the first person I read about when I decided to become a VA and I did a websearch. I took it as a sign because my name is also Sharon Williams (although I go by my middle name Michelle) and I also live in Maryland. I am just getting started and I wish your audio series "interview of successful VA...." was already out because some days I feel competely overwhelmed with all the info and trying to get everything set up but I am alway inspired by VAs like you, who have been and continue to be so successful. Even though I've been an AA for the past 15 yrs I'm quickly learning that actually setting up a business to do the same things I do everyday can be a challenge.
