Default The Idea Syndrome - Your True Harmony Blog
I was reading a blog post this morning by business associate and friend, Tammi Metzler, titled “My Dirty Little Secret”. Tammi’s dirty little secret is that she is finding it difficult to make time for business growth. Well, Tammi, you are not alone.

The entrepreneurial mindset usually works something like this: Idea, idea, idea, action, idea, idea, idea, action.

It seems as entrepreneurs, our cup is always running over with ideas. It is then up to each one of us to take action. Without action, an idea is just that, an idea. I know for me personally, holding myself accountable for taking actions that will make my ideas a reality is key. This is something I struggle with often. I think one of the best ways to hold yourself accountable (at least for me) is... Click here to read the rest of this post at the Your True Harmony Blog.

This is so so true - and more than setting the overall deadline, finding smaller, incremental deadlines for a project is so important if what you're working on is a long-term concept, like writing a book or e-book.

Like, breaking it up in to the draft table of contents by week 1, getting the first four chapters sketched out by week 3, editing the first draft at week 6, etc. etc. - because then you're actually *reaching* your incremental deadlines, and the end result you're working so hard for won't feel so far away.

I think a lot of the burnout that comes from not setting deadlines is precipitated by a feeling of overwhelm when faced with the big picture of whatever it is you're trying ot accomplish.

Great post Darlene! [And Tammi's post (that you linked to) was excellent too! ]

You are so right about the smaller incremental deadlines. It is an important part of goal setting. I should be receiving a form for exactly that later this week. If you like, I can send it to you to post in the document library.

Perhaps as well as deadlines we need start dates.

Tess, you are so right. Finding smaller, incremental deadlines for a project is important. Not just because it helps you take action on the project at hand ... but smaller goals, smaller deadlines that are actually obtainable make you feel like you have accomplished something. Which of course you have! The feeling of accomplishment is amazing and having that feeling when faced with a long-term project is oftentimes the pep, the spark needed to keep going.

Start dates are good idea too. Although a lot of times I find that setting a start date doesn't really work for me. I guess I thrive on deadlines. Like everything else in life, though, I think finding what works best for you - start dates, deadlines a combination of the two - is key too.

As far as start dates go - there's no time like the present!
