Default I Don't Know, But this is what I'm doing...
So, many of you may have read about my flop of a software training course that my client was going to provide to some of us...I got a lot of interest, did a lot of work...only to hear nothing back from my client.

Well, he popped back up yesterday with the promise of more work, which I'm in no position to turn away. He has said the class is still going to happen, but regardless...this is what I'm doing.

1- Starting a Web Design course online YAY!! I'm excited because it is a step, it is a step I can control, and once I'm done (or even before) I can begin working on small projects to bring in extra income.

2- NOT WAITING around any more...I'm on a mission to learn as much as I can, this way I have more to offer and will be more confident in what I have to offer.

I had lost my motivation to be a VA after what happened with my client, but I can't let one bad apple spoil the bunch, and he could still turn into a very good client once things settle down for him. But I put all my eggs into that basket and was devastated when it didn't go as planned.

Just a bit of an update on my situation and I hope everyone is doing great!!

  1. I'm sorry that the original plan didn't seem like it was going to pan out
  2. I'm happy that your client finally showed back up (although I'd be a bit leary at the same time.... cautiously optimistic is what I like to say)
  3. You've got a very good outlook about the whole deal. Wether it works out or not, it's a learning experience and that can never be bad.

Just remember that none of us can ever get lax with marketing or sit back and relax thinking, "This is the one." It's important to always monitor your pipeline and try to keep it as full as possible because things do happen and nothing lasts forever.

Yes, sometimes clients do pop in and pop out. I have a few of these and they are good clients when they do re-appear but I suspect they are so busy that delegating work to the VA just falls to the wayside sometimes.

That is exactly the reason why I continue to do a little marketing each week and I make sure I have other clients who are more consistent so that I don't have all my eggs in one basket, so to speak. Right now, I'd say my client load is full, but if one my "come & go" clients popped back up with a project, I'd find a place to fit them in.

I think if you took a poll around here, you'd find that the majority of us have had clients who have disappeared and re-appeared at some point. It's sort of the nature of this business.

And, good for you for taking control of your business, your situation and moving forward. This is exactly the mind set you need to have as a business owner to succeed.

You are a very resourceful person. And we are always here to help! I agree with you about the bad apple. That will happen from time to time. But, you have the right idea on growing your knowledge and staying up to date on other things you can do.

Take care of yourself first and you will be more valuable for your clients

Welcome back from your hiatus.

Good to hear that the client might turn out to be OK. I need to do a Web Design course, if only to get my own up and running. Could you post a link to the one you are doing by any chance - I am sure I am not the only one who would find it useful,

Sandra

Thanks everyone for the support!

OK, I'm doing the best possible course for someone in my position. I can't get a student loan so this was right up my alley.

http://www.ashworthcollege.edu/

I only put down what I could afford at the time, which was $10! I pay $39.00 a month and move at my own pace.

I just got my first book with assignments today and I can't wait to get started!!

I will be sure to keep everyone posted on how things are progressing!
