Post Getting Started?
Hi All,

I started my VA business at the beginning of this year - Mostly helping out family and friends.. and just really getting myself established with a website/twitter/linkedin etc etc..

I'd love to ask the question - How long did it take you before clients started knocking on your virtual door?

I've had a few enquiries - but no real leads.. So i'd just love to get an insight as to how everyone else experienced there first few months?

Thanks!
Corinne

Hi Corinne,
You just have to put yourself out there. Make a name for yourself. Get yourself seen in LinkedIn by posting in their Virtual groups. Find the virtual sites that allow you to list yourself on their site. Find your niche/target market and find where those people hang out. Network, network, and they will soon come to you...

Corinne,

Everyone is different, some it takes months others weeks. From your site I see you are a generalist, so it make take you longer than someone who is a paralegal VA. I was freelancing before I opened my doors so my first client was right away. However that may not be the case for you.

Also, when I started several years ago a VA was not as recognized as now and the economy was much better. Both of which could work for or against you. The best thing to do is define your target market and get yourself out there. When networking use both social media and face-to-face. Define a great strategy and stick to it. Find groups within your target and market there. For example, if you target to moms then find forums for working moms and participate there.

Hoping that you find your first client soon.

Congrats on starting your business. By helping your friends and family they may be able to generate leads for you as well. Do you attend any business networking events in your community? That may help.
