I'm just starting out and I've been incredibly overwhelmed. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'm on the verge of a panic attack, haha. There's just so much to know and do! I seriously have nightmares about being toted off to "business jail" because I did something wrong and had no idea!
In my search for understanding, I came across some great resources business.gov. They're concise and there are step by step instructions (upon which I thrive...) for getting everything in order. There's even a link that addresses online businesses! Just thought I'd share!
Also after you make 25 posts on here you will be able to access the Free contracts and forms directory. There you also will find a lot of information, that others have already found. I know 25 posts sounds like a lot, but it can be done. Believe me when I tell you there is a wealth of knowledge and information here , it truly is.

Since I am not origanally from Australia, I Finally can say I think I know how to start a business. I found the booklets of the ATO very usefull and I also found a lot of info on: http://www.becaustralia.org.au/
I am from Australia and yes the business.gov people are really helpful. Even their call centre people are great. I subscibe to their newsletter and it is full of great tips.
You can also look into grants for business women in your country.
