Default Canadian VA's Providing their Services via the Internet
Not too sure where else to post this, I couldn't find anything on the forums.

In Canada, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are about to impose usage-based billing. If internet users go over their allowed GB per month, your Internet Services Provider will charge you anywhere from $2 - $4 per GB. The reason I am posting this on here is that it affects all Canadian Virtual Assistants.

Anyways, If you haven't done so already, please sign the petition to stop the meter internet usage.

Ouch! Wow... I hope that doesn't pass. I can't imagine how much my bill would be if I had usage billing.

I just re-looked at the petition form, and it looks like anyone in Canada or the United States can sign it.

Thanks for posting the petiton....had me quite concerned until I contacted a friend of mine who works at Shaw and this is what she had to say:

"You have 60 gig /month on high speed if you needed more the next step is 100 gig and it would be 10 dollars more per month but you guys don’t need it. What we are trying to stop is the guys doing 300-400 gigs per month and say living next door to you sucking all the bandwidth out of your area making your internet slow. This will not affect normal internet users and there is a lot of miss information out there. And Shaw is one of the last companies to put this in effect. Telus did this 3 years ago and dial up has always had it."

So maybe not as bad as you thought?? I hope??

I am pretty sure that my household uses more than 60GB/month -- we have Shaw High-Speed. By the time you add up everything, it doesn't take long to get to 60GB...
- Regular Internet Browsing
- Listening/Downloading Music, Movies and TV Shows from iTunes.
- Watching Online Videos (such as YouTube and MTV)
- Online Gaming (there are a lot of PS3 games that you play over the internet)
- Downloading Files, such as PDFs, from Company Websites

Either way, internet prices are already really high, we shouldn't have to pay an arm and a leg just to use the internet.

Hi North Shore. I'm from Vancouver too Currently with Novus as there wasn't an option when I moved into this building. Nice thing is that they allow you to top up your usage by 10gb increments. Im also on high speed and Im way past the 60gb. Shaw on the other hand does not allow any topping up. You just have to hope that you dont need more than the 100gb.
When I was in Europe there was a usage limit also so it seems like such a long time ago that I haven't had these limits.
How fortunate are those who don't!
