Bits and Pieces of Lifehacker, part 2
Here is my second installment from Lifehacker: 88 Tech Tricks to Turbo Charge Your Day.
Hack 43: Craft Effective Message
Just a small sliver of the total hack but this is the coolest by far I think!
Sent an email without said attachment recently? UGH! I can’t stand it when I do that…I feel like such a dork! Well, there obviously must be employees AT Microsoft who have done it too because one of them decide Microsoft should put out a plug-in to keep us ALL from doing it! The bad thing is Microsoft thinks they should be able to charge us to not look like dorks. Trial version is free, license is $20. The plug-in can be found here. There is also one for gmail here. Even more beautiful is the simplicity of it all! Outgoing messages are scanned for the words "attached" and "attachment." Hack 68: Google Like a Pro
This includes a detailed list of Google tips but they are pretty basic. I was impressed by the list of advanced search options that can be found here. Hack 79: Capture Web Clippings with Google Notebook
I know Google has more tools than you can shake a stick at and this is one I’ve never used. I strongly agree with its usefulness though! I don’t know how many times I’ve come across a webpage that isn’t available anymore but it never fails that when it does happen it is something I REALLY wanted! What a better way to solve that than web clippings!
Using your Google account (is there really anyone who doesn’t have one?) log into Google Notebook. Or go here. Install the add-on for IE or an extension for Firefox. When you come across something you want to save highlight and right-click. Select Note this from the menu. Not only does it save the quote but the webpage too. Clips are saved to your Google Notebook account where you can reference them later.
There is a Scrapbook extension for Firefox too if you’d like to try that. It can be found here. There are many capabilities available that aren’t at Google Notebook (capture whole webpages, several levels of links, sticky notes, inserting comments, save all open tabs, etc.). Create an amazing day!
