What about just having them make photocopies? If you start with a really clean print this shouldn't be too expensive.

There are really decent HP scanner/copier/fax/printers (all in one) for like $50 U.S. now - not sure if prices translate to the UK but I'd imagine it's close. If you find one of those really gigantic office supply warehouse type places you can usually find a great deal on a quality machine.

I searched for this thread because I was looking for an opinion. I just designed my own cards and printed them on a really heavy specialty card stock, it's actually scrapbook paper. I wanted something with a unique texture. But I had read an article from someone who adamently protested against printing your own cards. I do think mine turned out nice though. I cut them myself using a big cutter and cutmarks..... They are only in black but the paper is a pink metallic. (my colors are pink, lt pink, brown and lt brown) so it makes sense.

I print my own business cards at home. If you put time and effort into them and buy a good quality paper stock, I think they can look just as good as cards printed professionally.

I personally use the Avery clean edge business cards (so you can't see the perforation at all. I've actually had people approach me about doing their cards now, too. The only thing is, the Avery Clean Edge cards are not cheap at all. You could end up spending close to what you would to have them done. Personally, I like to do my own though because I do small runs of them and can change my information around when needed.

Your cards sound really nice with the metallic paper. I'd love to see what they look like!

That's good to know I'm not the only one. I could take a picture but I don't even think the Metallic would come through well. Ah well.

Well, if I had the budget to outsource mine I would most definitely go that way. However, since at the moment I don't, I do my own. I too have found very good quality stock paper at local office supply stores like Office Max and others. Some of this paper is high gloss and no edges so they come out very clean. Yes, like Yvone said they can get a little pricey, but you can do as little or as much as you need. To me that's better then having to order a "set" amount. I worked for a small non-profit office and the Director had me do her cards from Avery high gloss paper. You couldn't tell they were not from a professional printer.

I also have a good printer so they've come out very good, if I do say so myself. I've had outsiders tell me my brochure looks very professional. I actually found the design on the HP website. So, I think there's a lot of tools out there that one can use to make your printed materials look pretty darn good. Just my 2 cents

Cheers,

Great idea Lily!

I print my own at this time, but I'm going to look into doing it your way. I wanted to tell you that on the back of my card is a short list of 9 services I offer and then it says: "Notes:" Then the other half of the card is blank for the notes. Because a lot of people write on the backs, I've covered my offerings and their need to write a note!

I am working now on my design hadn't decide which stock to use yet or what I believe would work best for my business cards. I pretty much done with designing and I do have highlights to add on back showing some of the key services I offer. I will be looking into OfficeMax if I don't like how my printer prints the cards or if my printer can't handle the paper I choose. Thank you for the tips ladies!

I print my own cards...especially now that Avery has the "clean edges" business cards......they are FANTASTIC. I put my printer on best quality and run about 30 cards (3 sheets) at a time.
