Default Other People's Business Cards
I'm not sure if this question have been asked, would it be safe to send information regarding your VA Business to people that have giving you their business cards. I have gotten business cards from various of places and would like to inform them what type of services I offer and how can I make contact to them not be deleted from their email.

Kimmie, I am not the expert on this, but I have been told that if you send unsolicited emails it is spam. I have been thinking about the exact same thing for business cards that I have been getting from my Take the Lead Group and from the Chamber of Commerce meetings. I am thinking that I will call and ask if I can email them some information on my business. Or you could send out a mailing to them. Bulk mail requires a permit and in Oregon the cost is $185 plus the mailing. The chamber of commerce I belong to allows members to use their permit and only pay for the mailing. I believe that you have to have 200 pieces of mail for each mailing.

Good luck on this. Getting started is HARD!!

If you use MailChimp and you place in there that you had made contact with them through a networking event it could cover you with the whole spam thing. However, make sure that the cards are from networking events or from previous dealings not from posting boards or cards that you have just found somewhere.

I agree that calling is okay. Introduce or reintroduce yourself and ask if you can send them some information. If they agree to speak with you, be brief, to the point, and follow-up with a letter. The old way of doing business still works.

Kimmie, receiving a business card is usually on the tail end of speaking with someone, conversing and giving them your business card. They have your card and know what you do ... I'm not sure I understand your question.

I have always found that following up with a potential client with calling, emailing or mailing them materials. Especially if I have run out of materials during a networking meeting and I always ask if I can send them the materials via email or snail mail. Most do not have a problem with it. Some have followed me home lol to receive my materials. So, if you can, try and remember what you told them and how they responded to your questions of following up and what type of followup they prefer.

I follow up on contacts with an email, "it was nice to meet you...a little something I learned about them (I usually will note on the back of the card as a memory jogger), I also connect with them if they are on Twitter, FB or Linkedin. I also include a link to my newsletter so that they will continue to get useful information from me on a monthly basis.

I will also forward any relevant information I find that may help them. A HARO request, an article about their business or a tip if you know that they need it. The key is finding the right balance. You don't want to become that dreaded contact however you want to stay fresh in their mind.

Thanks for all of the advice, not sure if this question should be ask here but it a follow up to one of the advice I gotten from here, would it be okay to send them a 1 page newletter of tips of what could be important to them and give a little info on what I do as a VA? Thanks

Kim,
Great idea. I think "take aways" are always a good idea. It keeps your name in front of them. You could also send a monthly "tips" email/newsletter. Beware of sending too frequently without including meaningful content or opportunities.
