Default Tag Line and Domain Name
This is probably a dumb question, but as I am just starting out I think I can get away with it. Do you have to have a tagline? I just came up with a name and a logo, but didn't know that I needed a tag line.

I also just read something about purchasing the domain name. I guess it would make sense to buy the domain name before creating the website? There is so much that goes into this whole business venture that I didn't know about. I am so glad to have been directed to this forum!

Hi Sonya,

It's personal preference if you want a tagline or not. But sometimes if it is catchy enough it helps gel your business in the customers mind. It's all about the overall branding for your business.

Your will need to check if your business name is firstly available in your state/country. Some of the other ladies here can probably direct you to the correct departments to check that. Then next is to also check it is available in a domain. I'd avoid using '_' or '-' in the domain as most people will forget to put it in and end up on another site.

You can create the site offline and upload it later, but I'd secure the domain name around the same time. Also think about the type of site you want to design (as some webhost cater for certain types better). Are you getting it built or doing it yourself? What platform will you use (Wordpress, Joomla etc)?

Talk to you soon

Fiona

I agree with Fiona, you don't *have* to have a tagline - but if and when you come up with one, great!

As to the domain/website - I'd say that you should secure your domain name as soon as you know which one you want just to make sure no one else snags it. Nothing more disappointing that finding the domain you wanted is now gone. Note that many domain registration sites will actually buy up domains that people have searched for via their site and not purchased so don't wait too long!

Fiona,

Tess is so right on grabbing your domain name quickly after you search! Just buy it even if is only for one year! I had a client once that happened to her and oh she was so upset! Eventually she got it, but still it was hard!

Tag lines....I don't have one! sorry can't help you there.

Leona
