Default Name Advice - Which Sounds Best?
Hello again!

Okay, I've been between the following names for my business. It's time to make a decision. I've been throwing these names at different people from different career levels and I've gotten some interesting feedback. Not all good, not all bad either. Tell me what you think, I need your honest opinion.

Company Name, Tagline:

GerthaMae, Your Virtual Source
Gerts, A Virtual Source
Gert, Your Virtual Source

In case any of you are wondering who Gert or Gertha is I'm naming the company after my mother. I was in the process of my start up when she past suddenly so I thought it would be a good way to bring some comfort to this venture that she never saw finished in the physical.

Thanks Guys!

First of all, I'm sorry to hear that you have lost such a close family member recently. It's never easy losing a loved one.

I greatly respect your wish to honor your mother but wonder if naming your business after her will only confuse potential clients. Most people would assume that it's your name and so you would always have to explain the circumstances which might make some people feel uncomfortable, right off the bat. Also, Gertha is not a common name and you might have to constantly spell it out. Naming your business is a very personal decision and ultimately only you can decide what's best.

That said, I really do love the idea of honoring your mother and so thought of some other ways you could possibly do that. How about donating a percentage of your income to her favorite charity? Or, think of her favorite animal, bird or flower and use that as your inspiration for a business name and logo.

Whatever you decide, I wish you every success with your business.

Hi MSVA,

Very sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I understand completely why you would want to honor your Mom in this way.

One suggestion - use something like GM Virtual or GM Office Solutions. You would still feel you were honoring your Mom by using her initials.

Just a thought.

I agree with Linda and Leslie, using your mother's initials could be a better idea and it will avert possible awkward situations with future clients. You can use them to mean something else also like "General Management" or something if needs be. I can't imagine how it would be to lose my mum so it is a really nice gesture to honour her like that. All the best.
