Default My new business name & tagline - what do you think?
So, I've been thinking about my company name a lot and I can use some help. Here's what I've come up with. I'm pretty sold on the name; I'm struggling more with the subtitle. But I welcome feedback on both!

Name: The Source

Subtitle: Virtual Support

I've started to work it into a logo that you can see here for reference but it's not yet final.

To give you more of my thoughts on the subtitle: I want to keep it brief but descriptive, so it can be part of the logo, but it needs to explain my company to people who may not be familiar with the concept of a virtual assistant. I'm not convinced this one does, but it's the best I've come up with so far.

Other possibilities:

Virtual Services
Virtual Business Services
Virtual Office Services
Off-site Business Services
On-call Business Services
Online Business Services

I'd like the subtitle to remain pretty general because I'm still figuring out my niche, etc. and I want to allow my specialties to be able to evolve. At first I'll probably focus on basic admin tasks, transcription, website/blog setup and social media. The goal of the name is to project confidence & professionalism, instill a feeling like this is the solution to their needs, and hint at my resourcefulness. (One of my best strengths, I think.)

What do you think? I'm not much of a wordsmith (even though I can be wordy! ) so any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

What about something like Virtual Admin Services that way they know that you are virtual and you provide administrative services.

Just a thought. I'm not much of a wordsmith either

Liz,

Your logo is very clever. Without saying so much in your company name and logo, the pin gives the image of paperwork or admin work. Rather good for for actually saying so little in the name and tagline (knowing you wanted to keep the info on general terms).

I'd go with Tracy's thought on adding Virtual Administrative Services so that it is really clear that you do administrative work.

Nice job on the logo!

Janine

Definitely Virtual Admin Services or Virtual Business Services.

I'm a neurotic wordsmith, so these challenges always snag me.
Being a source and being resourceful are two different things.
Should you be named 'Resources' or 'Resourceful Virtual Assistance?'
Or 'Source Solutions,' 'Resource Office - your virtual business solution,' 'Resourceful VA - administrative and online services.'

Sorry. I know you said you're already sold on the name. Ignore my ramblings at will. Definitely expand your tagline, IMHO.

I think you're well on your way to picking a good tagline and have been given some great suggestions.

I don't know if this makes any direct impact on your choice of a name, but it might be something to think about. Here in Canada we used to have an electronics retailer called Radio Shack which has since been taken over and renamed 'The Source' by Circuit City and officially called 'The Source (Bell) Electronics Inc.' There are some 800 stores with the name 'The Source' in this country.

You can read more about it here, hope that helps.

Kate is right, "The Source" is quite a prominent name here in Canada, I did a quick google and quite a few hits came up with that name. Mary had a few suggestions. HTH

Cheers!!

What about The Virtual Source-? Or if you decide to stay with The Source, then I would go with the advice already given and add in Virtual Business Services or something along those lines. I'm not a big fan of using the word "support" but that's just my preference. If you're planning on offering web/blog and social media services, then I don' think I'd go with something using Admin or Administrative in the title since people won't generally think web/blog or social media when they see that as your tagline. Just my thoughts!

I like the name and your logo. At first, I like everyones' suggestions of using Virtual Admin(istrative) Services for your subtitle but I think that JKVirtualOffice has a point if you're going to be offering services that aren't necessarily considered "admin" (sorry, I'm in write mode and it doesn't show the sigs to refer to real names and apparently my short term memory is shot this morning...lol). But how about Virtual Services or Virtual Solutions? Are you dead set on having "Virtual" in your name? You could always do something like:

The Source
Offering virtual solutions for all your business needs

Or something like that. I know you wanted it to all be able to fit inside of your logo but, IMHO, I think that "The Source" sounds better as a standalone name rather than tacking a subtitle to it. If you really wanted to do that, I think it would sound better if the business name was "One Source" rather than "The Source". It just rolls of the tongue better for me.

And on another note, Radio Shack is now called "The Source"? I didn't know that. Is it the same in the U.S.?

Nope, it's just here in Canada.

When I decided on a business name, I didn't want admin, adminstrative or virtual in the name because I didn't want to limit the services I may want to offer in the future that would not be identified with those words. The VA concept is not generally known in my area and I was getting puzzled looks especially when I said "virtual" as I tried out several business names. My business name is a little longer than I would like but I thought it does explain what I can offer.

StephanieP's tagline suggestion was great since it tells businesses you can help with their needs - then you can explain the "virtual" part that will continue the conversation.

Thanks for your feedback, on both the tagline & the name; I appreciate the honest feedback. Don't hold back. You've given me a lot to think about and I really appreciate that. (and you have any more I'd love to hear it!)

I may see if I can't come up with a less common name than "the source" - it's not yet used in this industry, that I can find, so I gotta think more about whether I expect people to look for my company on Google very often. I'll need to weigh that against that name's benefits... I've got some thinking to do!

And Janine, thank you for the compliment on my logo! I'm so glad to hear it made the intended impression.

You guys are great! So grateful to have your support. Thanks again.

I love the 'pin' you are using in your logo... first thought that came to mind when I saw the logo was... The Source... Pinpointing your every need. However after reading several of these other postings like: Offering virtual solutions for all your business needs.

Lots to think about, Good Luck in your quest for the right tag line.

I love the name "the Source" paired with Pinpointing your every need as Assistance By Faye pointed out (pardon the pon..lol!) Is a great combo. But maybe add business in there with it. Like " Pinpointing you every business need"
Dunno..just talking out loud. I'm stuck on my name as well!

Although I have virtual in my name, I didn't want to pigeon hole myself into only offering administrative/secretarial type of services; thus At Your Virtual Door Business Solutions. Now I had someone ask me if we make doors, that's not the message I'm trying to convey. As a virtual professional, I believe I'm saying I offer services to you at your door, but not literally as you can be 2,500 miles away i.e virtual door. I know it's rambling but this was a lot of forethought and discussion prior to putting the final stamp of approval on the name. I've actually had a lot of great comments about the name especially when asked what is a virutal assistant. On my business cards it reads my name and Virtual Assistant & Bookkeeping Specialist. Most people go directly to the bookkeeping they get that.
