When I was trying to come up with a business name, I was thinking about the "A" because of the yellowpages so I came up with A & L Services (my daughter's initials). While doing some research I read an article which stated that a company name should tell what the company does and it should be something people would remember easily. That's when I came up with Super Secretaries.

I was trying to figure out something that was catchy and cute something that is memorable. I was having the hardest time.
Finally I sat down with my dad who is my toughest critic, I told him the names and he just shook his head and asked "what do assistants use a lot in the office" and so I started rambling things that I use in the office "stamps, envelopes, pens, paperclips....." My dad and I looked at each other and said "That is it"
Paperclips Virtual/Office Solutions.

It is catchy and cute and my little logo guy is adorable. It is very suitable.

I basically wanted something beginning with the letter "A" so if I was listed I could be towards the top of that list!

I used to enjoy bird watching when I lived in Norfolk and there were lots of Avocets there. They always facinated me and I thought they were a very pretty and delicate looking bird - so there was my "A"!

I initially thought about being Avocet Buisness Services but then decided Solutions was a more positive word.

So there you have it - Avocet Business Solutions!!

Mine was sort of an accident. But Awesome Assistant starting with an A sure is great!

I'm currently working full time as an admin assistant and my boss says with some frequency that I'm his "favorite secretary" (he's had a few)...hence the name "My Favorite Secretary". I want to be my clients' go-to gal to get stuff done.

I just finalized my name last week. I have spent since June 30 writing down words and phrases and asking family and friends. Even my neighbors at the bustop would give me a new name here and there that they thought of. I wanted something short and simple--2 words. Most of the 2-word websites are taken when you combine a mix of all the office, admin, etc. words I thought of. I have pages and pages and eventually plugged them into Word so I could scroll through them and connect some and look in the thesaurus too. I would take my thesaurus on vacations with me this summer in case I thought of a new word. I searched the website names forever and most of the ones I liked were taken. I absolutely loved Office Rescue, and I want to congratulate the Virtual Assistant who has that one and her website is great too. I narrowed it to my top 5 and emailed them around to my core family and friends for their opinions. Three of the 5 were pretty popular. One of them most of my non-working family/friends chose as their top one. So, I decided that I was not planning to appeal to stay-at-home moms. I was looking for something professional and to say what I was that clients would view me as. I thought I would be a business partner for some and an assistant for others. Hence, I came up with Office Ally. Actually, I think it was my sister who joined the two words together when we were brainstorming one day. I have not done my website yet, but plan on adding VA to the end since there is an existing Office Ally website for a medical claims company. I didn't want a name that connected with any other virtual assistants or admin-type company. I'm currently designing my logo for my business cards, and I think that's even harder!

I went through a few names and arrived at "THE SAVVY ADMIN". I thought that was a fitting name for my business because it represents my "think outside the box" personality and my creative spirit...not an ordinary admin. It took lots of brainstorming. My early names were more along the lines of design work and didn't really represent my business as a whole. Also, my manager used that word to describe my work around the office as well.

I started my business in 1997 with the company name "Power Writers" but everyone thought I was a writing company. I changed it to Maryland Secretarial Services, Inc. because it sounded like a professional business support company. I've gotten a lot of prospects and clients who found me while searching online for "Maryland" and "secretarial." Now the organizer of a networking group I'm a member of says I should change it to be "sexy" and use a name to reflect me as a virtual assistant.

I completely branded one name, and when it came down to it, it just wasn't feeling right. The new name and branding I took was in a totally different direction, but gave me a sense of what I wanted and didn't want. Selecting the key term you want to convey is also extremely helpful in your brainstorming.

Oh my! I've had the hardest time finding a name and have been frustrated with myself (it's been a month now) but it's nice to know I'm not the only one this has happened to!! Everything's pretty much on hold until I get that name though I am also brainstorming different words and names and hopefully I'll get my name sooner rather than later!

I came up with my name within an hour of brainstorming. Within a day, I had my first client! No, nothing to do with the name, but I think the one I chose is memorable and that's my philosophy when it comes to business names. Can a prospective client recall it easily? If not, I won't use the name. I have a tendency towards the kitsch but of course, not all would be comfortable with this.

My friend recently started a very ambitious online business but the problem is the name she has come up with is not memorable and doesn't even sound English. As the site is new, there is an opportunity to re-brand without losing momentum.

Cheers!!

My business name was pretty easy...the initials of my mother and my name combined with what we do. (C & M Virtual Business Solutions)

I just renamed my business because we are planning a move and I need a more generic name. I came up with one in about half an hour and then did a name search and registered the name and the domain name. I'm now working on the website for Prime Admin Solutions.
