Four Characteristics of Great Logo Design
Hi Everyone,

Want to share this article from Inc Magazine entitled, "Four Characteristics of Great Logo Design".

Some good advice and tips here such as, "Your logo should stand out and be recognized among the slew of others in the same market space. Matt Mickiewicz, co-founder of Sitepoint.com, suggests staying away from overly used icons, like globes and arrows. And according to graphic designer David Airey, you should keep in mind that a logo doesn't need to say what a company does."

Although I'm not a graphics designer, I designed the logo for a ministry of our church recently. I purchased the rights to a picture on Fotolia and used WordArt to wrap the text around the picture. It came out pretty well. Everyone liked it. I also designed my own business logo.

My objective was to create both a name and logo that reflected the idea behind my company - support for the flux, or ebb and flow of small businesses. I looked for a name that was somewhat descriptive, a sort of play on words that wouldn't be overly literal, hopefully leaving a bit of intrigue to invite further investigation. With all that going on, I decided a simple, clean design with a flowing font would work best for the logo. I don't know how successful it is, but I like it.

I'm hoping that others will post theirs here, I'd love to see more.

This was a great idea and great link to that article, Janine. I personally have been up and down, and left and right with my logo. I at one point liked having something more artistic and then settled on a more subdued look, which I designed myself using a stock image.

Please comment on my logo: MY LOGO. I do think I am going to consider looking for a professional logo designer. I am just never happy with what I design.

Hi Patty

I like how the colors of your logo tie in with the colors on your site. It also has a very professional and businesslike feel to it.

My only input would be that maybe it doesn't stand out enough. There seems to be a lot of text between the company name and tagline, which is competing with the image, and both lines are exactly the same length. Also, the company name wasn't immediately clear to me. This might be rectified pretty easily by playing around with the scale of the text, fonts and imagery a bit.

If you'd like any specific suggestions or if you think I could help you with this, as a favor from one VA to another, I'd be happy to. I don't think you need to throw in the towel with your logo yet.

Cheers!

Michelle, thank you so much for that advice. I readjusted things around and like it much better. I am going to request assistance from VAs here on this forum very soon through an RFP. I have now had enough income to begin to use some of it for my business ... especially in my logo design and later help with redesigning my Web site.

That was so nice of you to offer to help me. Thank you so much!

When designing a logo, should you use a professional if designing is not your biggest strength? Or just go with the flow? Any good graphic designers to recommend?

Your logo looks very professional and your site too. I really liked your logo and the look of your site.
