Default Feedback Please - Business Name
Good evening everyone!

I am in the process of going through my business plan and am working on my business name. My husband already has a web design company (called Majenic Technologies) so I am considering calling my business "Majenic Virtual Business Solutions".

Does anyone have any useful feedback for me please? The one downside to this I am thinking of is that it will put me fairly low on the list search engine wise as it starts with an "M"...not sure....

Thanks so much for your help!

I wouldn't worry about the "M" but rather focus on branding yourself and your business. How well placed on search engines is your husband's business for example? If it comes up well then your business name could get listed quickly too - simply because of a similar name. But if it doesn't then you need to focus on promoting the virtual business solutions part of it. Majenic will just help identify/separate you from other VA services. Make sure it's on all your materials - business card, letterhead, other printed papers, advertising, signature blocks, website, emails.

It takes time to build it up - it doesn't happen overnight but if you work at it consistently and persistently, every little bit will count toward branding your business and name.

I don't think your company name makes any different on how you come up on search engines, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Hi Lidia,
While having keywords in your business name can make a difference with SEO to a certain degree the industry is at this point so saturated with 'virtual assistant' etc. biz names that it really isn't something worth putting a lot of stock in.

However, the letter your business name starts with has absolutely nothing to do with search engine placement - it's by no means an alphabetical system (if you'd like to learn more about SEO in general, do check out our Search Engine Optimization section here on the boards)

I think Kathie's suggestions are right on and of course, choosing a name that you love and are happy to work with, proud to tell people while networking, etc. is so important.

Be sure to post back and let us know what you decide to go with

Question Re: Feedback Please - Business Name
Thank you all for your responses.

I got the information on starting your business name with a letter high up in the alphabet from the book "Virtual Assistant, The Series: Become a Highly Successful, Sought After VA" - some of the VAs in the book swear by that system.

Having done more research today though I agree - it has nothing to do with SEO. I think if you are placing ads in the Yellow Pages then it may be a legitimate claim......but that is probably where the utility ends.

What do you think (from a branding stand point) of people who use their names as their business name?

Thanks!
Lidia

I think the reference to the alphabet thing was in consideration of the phone book as you said, which makes sense to a degree....but in any case - I think it's really fine to brand around your name - lots of people in all industries do that.
Just go through some of the profiles here on the forums and click the links to their home pages, you'll see a good portion have the last name or initials, etc. in the business name...

It's certainly one way to make the business unmistakably 'you'!
