Default Changing business name
My VA business name is Rhythm Virtual Solutions, with the tag line Operating with Perfect Rhythm in the Business World.

The problem is that apparently no one knows how to spell Rhythm! My registered business name with the county is Romero Communications so I was thinking of changing the VA business name I go by to Romero Virtual Communications. It's my last name anyway so maybe it'll help people remember the business name.

Thoughts?

I would of course have to purchase a new domain name which is fine. I backup my website on backupbuddy anyway and I can always move the website to the new domain and have the old one redirect to the new one.

The only thing is that I just purchased a new box of business cards and it took me almost 6 months to go through my last one. I'm hoping I'll get through the new box quicker since I've been going to more networking events, and I definitely don't want to just throw them out.

Hi Paulette,

Yeah, Rhythm is one of my bad ones too (confession; I spelled it wrong here the 1st time I like the idea of using your last name and totally agree that it will be easy to remember.

Since you will be redirecting the old URL to the new site, you can still use all the business cards. I would just prominently display something to the effect of "Rhythm Virtual Solutions is now Romero Virtual Communications" (or Romero Virtual Solutions - unless Communications is what you do).

I say that because I am one that gets freaked out if I go to one site or URL and I am redirected to another with no explanation and I always approach business from the standpoint of me being a consumer also (i.e how would I feel if?).

Just a thought!

Ahh good idea. I know I've been to websites that say something like "you will be redirected in 5 seconds to __________" I know I can set up a redirect easily, I would have to look into having a 5 second delay explaining why they're being redirected to a new site.

I like Romero Virtual Solutions and Romero Virtual Communications. The other thing to think about is your email address.

Tina's idea of redirecting the old URL to the new site so you can still use all the business cards would be a great way to go so the new cards do not go to waste.

Good luck!

I thought of that too. I use Outlook so I can always set up an out of office response that says that my email has changed to ___________ and also set up a forwarding to my new email. Then of course I have to update my email address with every single site that I'm registered at. That's going to be a nightmare!

I would take the loss and order new business cards. It would give you more of a professional look. If you have to explain the name change for every card you hand out, it could raise red flags of doubt as to "why"? The redirect would be fine because only existing clients would see it and they already know you are of sound character. Just be sure to keep one card as a keepsake. I have four now!

Hi Wendy,

She wouldn't have to explain the name change every time she hands out the cards, that is what the explanation of the name change is for upon redirection.

I wouldnt be explaining anything, the redirect can explain it for me during the delay. Plus I just had a friend/colleague of mine totally redesign my business cards for 3 hours at $75 an hour so I am most certainly using up the new business cards once I receive them! Plus I'm not going to move the site right now. I probably won't get to it for another month or so.

Why were you concerned about people spelling Rhythm? If they're receiving your emails or your business cards they would have it in front of them. For those who don't actually know your business name and searching online for your services, then your SEO should be doing the work. Speaking over the phone you simply spell it out. And you could purchase the misspelt version of your domain to divert to the correct spelling. To me that would be a cheaper cost for you than having to start all over again with new business registration, paperwork, business cards, etc.
