Default Change of heart
As you know I'm registered here as Miss Moneypenny but I have not been 100% sure about the name from the start. I think it's too frivolous and when I hadbthe opportunity sign an email with my company name I choose not to because I wasn't sure I would be taken seriously.

I am now considering using my initials 'ME - Business Support Services' with the tagline '...helping YOU get the job done.'

What do you think? Better?

Hi Myrthe

What is your target market? I liked the Miss Moneypenny name as it had humour but it depends on the image you are trying to project. If you want to be taken more seriously then the ME - Business Support Services is good.

You are obviously not happy with the Miss M name so I think you should change it. Why not think of a range of names and try them out on friends and family until you find one that you are completely happy with and that projects what you want it to project.

Try googling your choices to see if there are other businesses in the same sector with similar names. You don't want to lose business to a similar sounding business.

Good luck,

Sue

Thanks Sue,

I suppose you're right. I will develop a draft logo and strap line for both names and take it to friends and contacts for feedback. I have a special connection with Miss Moneypenny, it was the nickname my first boss gave me. Am thinking of a nice Jordi Labanda type visual to go with it.

ME Business Support Services is more serious but I quite like the play on words with the ME and the YOU in the strap line.

Aaah, decisions, decisions...

If you aren't in love with your name now you wont be later either.

On that note, there are many companies that have non serious names that are successful.

Google
Mail Chimp
Apple (I mean who names their product after a fruit right?)

When you think of those names it not only sets them apart, but you think only of the product associated with it.

I like the Miss Moneypenny name too - in fact I had thought about changing my business name to it but then realised it had already been taken!

But it's up to you of course...

I'm undecided! So far the feedback I have had has been really positive and even my husband really likes it. My plan is to get logo nerds to develop 2 logos, one for each name, and take it from there. I feel Miss Moneypenny would be easier to brand, more modern and even a little quirky.

Now all I have to do is decide on WHAT i deliver: business support, pa services, VA services... So much to think about!

I envy you in some aspect as I am having problems even developing one idea for a name. I thought MissMoneypenny sounded really unique and set you apart but as Amanda1987 said - if you aren't happy with it now, chances are you won't later. But if the only reason you "don't like it" is because you aren't sure the perception from others, I agree on bouncing it off everyone in site. When we started my husband's business, we even bounced it off our kids - just to see what they thought. It's a difficult decision to make and many will, at times, still doubt their decision but be confident in it and you'll make it work.

Hi ladies,

I thought I'd let you know that I have decided to stick with the Miss Moneypenny name and I have you, Amanda 1987,to thank for it. Your example of Apple convinced me that a 'frivolous' name is not necessarily a bad one.

I have just received the first draft of my logo. Exciting stuff!

although it was the "other Amanda" that was able to help you. I'm glad you got more comfortable with the name. If you get a chance, please post your logo --- the more other ideas (names and logos) I see could really help me try and reach mine. thanks!

Hi Myrthe

Well done for deciding to stick with the original name. It was my favourite!
