I used LogoNerds.com because I was in the same boat as you and for $47.00 I was really please with what they came up with. and they give you 6 options to chose from and they are very easy to work with. There is also a great product out called Logo Design Studio. This version retails for about $30 and the pro version which I have used with great success is about $60. It's very flexible and I've designed not only my logo, but a wide variety of different graphics and headers for several clients. I think you can get the regular version at places like Staples, but it's best to buy right off the internet from the company themselves.
